Running lights

I've seen a few police officerssitting in parking lots, or off to the side of the road at night, with no lights on whatsoever. My question is, do you have to have your running lights on (are you supposed to?) when radaring? I've been told of some laws reguarding entrapment...do officers have to be in plain sight from the road in which they were radaring? or am i just misinformed? what are some of the legalities reguarding this? I live in OH, if you were wondering.

as far as i know, slick tops are Illegal in ohio, or at least the NW ohio area. However, they are used just over the border in Michigan

Not sure about Ohio, but we don't have to leave anything on as long as we are off the roadway. I have one particular area I sit on airport property where I block one lane of traffic (not many cars that come by, but they have a lane to go around me). I have to leave my rear lights on to meet TCA code. ;)

entrapment is when we convience you to do something illegal or something you wouldn't normally do. How is sitting in the dark encouraging you to speed?

There's no requirement to have any type of lighting on. I could put a big camoflauge cover over my car and there would be nothing wrong with it.

I'm suprised slick-tops are illegal when the requirement is to have a front red or blue light emitting from the front of the vehicle in order to drive code or effect a traffic stop. What difference does it make if its on top of the car or in front of the windshield?

JD, this is just what i have been told. no where in ohio that i know of do any marked units have slick tops. May not necessarily be illegal, just a standard. what about if a unit is parked on private property without consent of the owner. I know of someone who got out of a ticket (unfairly in my perspective, if you are caught, deal with it) by stating that the person was on private property. is there a law against this?

Not really entrapment, no requirement to be seen either. Unmarkeds cannot run radar or make traffic stops. (We've had real problems in the past with impersonators)

However, a slick top is not the same as unmarked. Some of our cars are testing those new low profile LED light bars, They look like some sort of luggage rack.

i tried that one day. in an unmarked slick-top car, i was lucky if anyone even noticed to pull over. i got back in my car after only a few stops. i also have one of those LED slim bars that you can't really see. it's great.
