Town Cop or State Trooper?

Well what would you rather be?

Neither. I like the Do-Do Brown County Work.

But, if I HAD to choose, I'd be the town Police..... I hate working ONLY TRAFFIC.

I hate to disagree with you, acreature, but not all troopers work only traffic. In NY for instance, the SP are the only LE in some areas. troopers do every kind of police work, from theft to homicide investigations and everything in between. In some states, they are in fact "only" a highway patrol, but that can be a fulfilling career also.

True, but he said Trooper, and that usually implies Highway, IMO. Had he said State Police.... then I would have I would rather do that.... ;)

BTW...... Va State Police was the first agency I ever applied for.... Moved to NC for an S.O...... Would have never applied to the NC Highway Patrol, for they are all Traffic.

Our State Police is like the military, you can get moved around as they need you and in order to make rank, they will move you around the state. That won't happen in my municipal PD.

I took tests for a couple of years and ended up with 2 offers on the same day. One from the State Police and one from my current dept. After having been in the military for 4 years and having bee moved around the world a few times, I decided to stay put.

A decision that I have NOT regretted 18 yrs later.
