    Question for Joey.

I must say folks...anyone who hands me a CCP or tells me they have a weapon on them with their license (and no LE ID) is not going to be doing anything with their hands but keeping them up, becuase my side arm will be out of the holster very fast while explaining where I want their hands.

I cannot speak for NYC, but if an officer drew down on someone here in Ga simply for showing a concealed weapons permit, they would be looking for work shortly.

My question I guess, is how often will a NYC officer come across a concealed weapons permit? They are quite common here.

Oh yeah, welcome back from the honeymoon! I hope you had a wonderful time!

    Hey Norm!
Thanks on the welcome back. It was fairly fun.

I may not have clarified myslef properly. When I said my little friend would be out....he woudl be out of the holster....but not necessarily drawn.

In NYC, there are a few different kinds of permits.
    1) Premise License- good for a specified weapon only at a specified addres. It can not leave that address.
    2) Carry Business License- very few here in the City...basically a concealed carry permit for business purposes. Like I said, very few and very rare.
    3) Limited Carry Business- Issued to a person to carry a specified weapon concealed between specified locations during specified times. Most often this is found with currency transporters and in diamond transporters. These folks are very distinguishable and rarely driving themselves around. Most are driven and they are very "identifiable."
    4) Carry Guard- allows a security gurad to carry a specified weapon after certifying in the state course, but ONLY while they are actually working. They can not carry the gun at any other time. The employer is responsible for holding the weapon when they are off. Thus, they are in uniform.
    5) Special License- issued to others visiting NY who have a valid state permit elsewhere and show a specific need for a wepon for business use. (Like a celebrities bodyguard from California doing a party here.)

You can get a concealed carry in Rochester. But come to NY and it is not valid. Permist issued in NY State, but outside of NYC, are NOT Valid in NYC. So as you can see....we do not see that many permits. They truly are rare here in NY City. As you can see...those issued permits tend to be not a general John Q. Citizen. And sisnce they are so hard to get, when somebody hands me any other permit........they have no right to carry in NYC. That means they are technically carrying a weapon (illegal). So I take the road that if you are technically not supposed to have it...you may be up to no good. Maybe not...but I will be safe.

My whole issue was with him saying he would "hand" me his gun. There would be no hands on the gun except mine. I pulled over many who have legal permits and advise me they are carrying at the time. Based on their attitude and the situation, I have rarely done more than explain where to keep their hand while we talk. The few times I felt the need to secure the weapon, a second unit was requested and we did a modified felony car stop where I removed the weapon myself.

    Hope that clarifies things!

Thanks for taking the time to write out such a detailed answer!

Why did the city feel the need to complicate the CCW process? To me, that seems insane! The Atlanta Journal did a survey last year and found that 1 in 10 adults here in Ga had a CCW. Of course we only have on kind of permit. :D
