Call me wierd but I like to be the only one on a traffic stop with a gun. If I stop a person, I'll hold onto their weapon for a few until I figure out all the facts. If they have a ligit reason to have a weapon, then I will happily return it to them. I'd personally prefer someone to be upfront when I pull them over...something to the effect of "Yes I have my license, but I have a CCW and am carrying a gun near my wallet". We can figure it out from there. If however I was just to notice a gun as someone reached for their wallet, or got into their glove box, I would become a much less pleasant person.
I agree with steelcityk9cop's idea about how to determine if someone is really a cop if you truly doubt that they aren't...obey the speed laws and keep driving. Trust me, other officers in marked cars will start showing up. If you are close to a police station, drive to it and pull into the parking lot. Of course, you'll have to explain yourself later, possibly from a prone position, but if you really have doubts it may be worth it.
