    Handicaps

I've got dreams of going into Law Enforcement.. But I've for 2 little handicaps, that I'm unsure of-

    1. I have asthma.. I'm usually fine, but if I do something physical, I usually need a puff of my [albuterol] inhaler, and then I'm fine for about 5 hours.. I know that'll be fine when I'm on duty, but.. On my job application, when I put that down(Assuming it asks for any physical or medical issues), will it hinder my chances of getting in?

    2. I'm lefthanded, I don't think that the handgun will be a problem, but something like a Heckler & Kosh, or a shotgun(Lethal or beanbag), would it hinder my aim or grip? I haven't ever held those guns, so maybe it does feel more natural to hold it like a righty, but I've held a Musket, an SKS, and a revolver(44cal I beleive)

My biggest concern would be your asthma. You may not be able to get to or reach that puff you need and then what ? What if you are wrestling with a drunk and can't stop him/her from getting your gun ? There are other scenarios I could come up with.

As I just said in another thread, you need to find out what the dept. looks at as far as asthma and will a doctor sign a letter saying that you are 100% fit to perform the duties of a LEO ??

Being a lefty is NOT a concern. When we qualify, we have to shoot both strong and weak handed. So I must be able to shoot lefty which is more suited to warning shots than accuracy.

True, I may not be able to get to it, but as I said- I'm usually fine for like 5 hours after using it, even if I do have to run quite a bit

It is a releif to hear that being lefthanded won't hinder me. Seems to be these days things are made in absolute spite of lefties. Even learning the Guitar right-handed was a struggle for me, and trying to shoot an SKS is just a joke, the bullet would fly right out in my face.

We have a couple of officers that have asthma and they got hired. I would assume you would be OK.

The left hand thing isn't a handicap.
Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

Whoa easy tiger, i'm left handed and I wouldnt call myself handicapped....
I am also right eye dominant so shoot my handgun with my left hand but the Heckler & Koch MP5 we shoot, I shoot it right handed so I can look through the scope and use the iron sights, it wasnt too hard for me to adjust.
A snout has told me he's got a set of nostrils, so go and get a W so we can spin his drum to see if he's got any monkey gear - The Sweeney.

I'm in the same boat as Oldbillplod, lefty w/ right eye dominant. I also shoot the long guns right-handed. Shot a 99 at the range last month with the 12-gauge. You get used to it.

    Wink Right-Handed Vs. Left-Handed

Don't you know...Everyone Knows that Right-Handers are better police officers. Ask any right-hander and they will tell you all about it.

They even have left-handed support groups in most police departments.

Its gotten so bad now that left-handers are wearing their firearms on the right side just to fit in but they still try to grab the weapon with their left hand. Thats good for a laugh, albeit unsafe.

    Bwahahahahaah :p

My sister is left handed. I always tell her that her brain is in backwards. She tells me she is in her right minds. :D
