    CCW's and younger people carrying?

I am almost 22, and of course pursuing a career in LE, but how do LEO's feel about someone my age carrying? there interest in LE is irrelevant of course unless your an LEO and carrying. I have considered getting a CCW, but i just feel that i should wait till i'm an LEO (hopefully) to carry one. But there are people my age that carry and choose to do so.

What are your opinions of someone 21 years of age atleast for MI to carry a concelaed weapon? When a traffic stop occurs and you see that i am 21 and i am carrying....does the thought ever cross your mind "your 21, what are you doin with a gun?"

    thanks J

The same as if you are 16 and driving with a license. If you are legal, then you are legal.

As long as you're legal, and not an idiot... :D
I got my CCW as soon as I could when I turned 21 before I got into LE. I'm all for a person being able to defend themselves. IMHO everyone is safer when the criminals are a little more hesitant to strike because of CCW.

Carrying a firearm is a GREAT responsibility. NOBODY should ever know you are packing unless you HAVE to use it. Your friends and family don't need to know, just you. Be mindful of weapons retention in case someone sees it and make sure you have your permit with you at all times when carrying.

Like Drew said, 21 isn't too young. A 21 yr old can be responsible.

Do it before u start the academy. Not so you can carry, so to speak. When I interviewed for my academy, my interviewer said you don't have a ccw, I said no, he said get one!

If you are in the academy, I wouldn't be carrying. Bad things happen to good people. It would suck, even in a rightous shoot and then your name turns to poop. It is better to be a good witness. Not to mention the law suit, you will get sued when you shoot someone.

I believe law abiding citizens have the right to carry. Just don't do it during the academy. I mean in and outside of the academy walls (i.e. the mall).

I carry every where I go. It was cool for about a week. Now I don't have to much of a choice. The more people you arrest, the more people seem to hate you........is that a correlation or what!!!

thanks for the insight...i am going to take my CCW class then. I just feel very nervous carrying it. maybe once i go to the shooting range I will become more at ease with a firearm. I am hesitant to carry becuase of my lack of knowledge about a firearm. maybe once i learn what a firearm is, and what it does i can learn to respect it and learn how to use it.

i asked a few friends what they would think if i carried...they really didnt give me a clear cut answer. they just kinda shrugged their shoulders. no one would ever know that i have a CCW or that even packing.
