    Military training and police officers

I am a 28 year old male. I have a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. I have a couple of marks on my Criminal record from 5 years ago (1997 Harassing phone calls, 2000 Assault and battery), which is making it very difficult (impossible) for me to find a job a police officer (or any type of officer). I am considering joining the Army as a military police officer. My question is that will the specialized training help me get over that hump. My idea is that if I enilst for 3-4 years and 1) get the experince that I am lacking and 2) it will put even more time between my criminal history. Will this help, does the military training help when trying to get a job as police officer? My Masters degree is useless now due to the marks on my criminal record. thanks for your time.

Hell, I was charged with Assault and Battery, Disorderly, and Destruction of Personal Prop 4 yrs to my being employed.

Though they were frivilous charges, and were dismissed..... What's the story behind yours?

I got into a fight after the bar. I hit a kid with an open hand. I plead no contest. I am sure that it will follow me for the rest of my life.

Maybe, Are you remorseful? Do you realize what you did was wrong? What steps have you taken to ensure that this will not happen again?

I am very remorseful. I think about it everyday. I do not blame anyone but myself. I know what I did was wrong. I went to counseling after the incident. I have lead a good life since then, as I mentioned I finished up my school work and recieved my Masters degree but that seems to be useless because of the background.

All of this should probably be disclosed the same time your CH is.

If you decide to go, use the degree to your advantage and go through officer candidate school. That way you'll start with some rank and start with quite a bit more money than regular enlisted folks.

The military may not take you either. If you do get in, and then get back out and try to break into law enforcement later, you are really go to have to shine, and have some steam (know someone). Good luck sir.
You know the difference between a job and a duty? A job you can refuse to do because it's dangerous; a duty you must do even if it is dangerous.
