    conflict with upcoming exam date

my boyfriend has a conflict with the date he registered to take the NYPD exam(saturday, october 23rd). we have a wedding we've rsvp'd for and cannot get out of. does anyone know if this is an acceptable reason to request an alternate test date from the DCAS?

I would think he would have to re-apply.

If it isn't that important to him, then maybe rethinking the career may be an option.

    He should take the test.

    it is important to him

but this wedding is a family thing. we just hadn't recieved the invitation until after he applied. do you think they just won't accept that as a viable reason to change him to one of the two alternate dates available?

He'd better call and ask. I know that these testing dates cost time and money for the dept. They probably have others that they have turned away for your boyfriend to be scheduled. My Dept. would frown on a rescheduled test date. We have had applicants call ahead and ask for a reschedule, and have been told that "Don't call us, we will call you".

The family will understand, or at least they should.

Tell your boyfriend if the job is that important to him to take the test. I don't believe any agency would take going to a wedding as an excuse to missing the test. Tell him to explain the situation to the family that he has to take the test. Worse case is a couple of family members get pissed, but if they do, oh well.

I personally would consider this the same as telling them you don't want the job, but that's just me. I can guarantee some departments would view this as not being serious and simply move to the next candidate.
