Question Type of Bachelors... does it really matter?

I just recently aquired my Associates degree in Criminal Justice, and have transfered to a upperclass college and am currently working on my Bachelors. Now, I have worked at a Police Department as a intern through a COOP program, and from what information I was able to ascertain from different officers it really doesnt matter what type of degree you major in. I have started Upper level Criminal Justice classes, however I was told it is better to major in something else incase LE isnt for you(I know it is, I have a little experience in the field through COOP and have a firm beleif that it is for me) I would be able to fall back on something else.

Now, I really enjoy history and wouldnt mind majoring in it, or teaching it if need be, however would a Bachelors in History hinder my chances in being hired by a Law Enforcement Agency any? Im assuming having a BS in anything would help. Thankyou for your time, and I look forward to your helpful replies.

    -T.J.

I would agree that a BS in any major would be just fine. The AA in criminal justice surely satisfies the basic requirements of any PD. Good luck

Many PDs near me require more than associates.

As already mentioned, any BS should be fine. Study something you like. It tends to come a lot easier if you enjoy it. Also, if the degree could be usefull towards a career that you enjoy, that would even be better. Sometimes Le careers do not work out for even the best qualified candidates... injuries, etc.

I agree.....then when you retire as a cop you can do another career in retirement. I know a few people doing that right now.

A degree is helpful but my dept only pays extra for a CJ degree. ( $750 per year)
