Question about Vehicle Code Violations...

Hello all,

I am looking for an answer for vehicle code clarification here in California. Can anyone give me an idea on what is illegal in regards to interior lighting in a car, i.e. a vehicle had a blue strip style light in the windshied area. Also what is the violation for a blue strobe in a car (non LEO). Is it impersonation to have it on, etc.

Also can a provate citizen arrest for a mistomenor from a vehicle code that occurs in his/her presence, i.e. reckless driving.

You are kidding right? You realize what people are going to infer here right? First you ask if it is okay for "someone" (non LEO) to have BLUE, EMERGENCY, FORWARD-FACING strobes in their POV??! I don't even know a SINGLE REAL COP that does this. THEN, you ask if a private citizen can arrest for a traffic misdemeanor?! While the answer might technically be 'yes' (providing it is truly a misdemeanor rather than an infraction...do you even KNOW which category all violations fall under, or do you keep a sourcebook on the passenger seat?), one would have to ask how you would stop them in the first place. The glaring reply that pops up there is "With his wannabe/illegal/creepy/stalker/rapist/impersonator-friendly blue strobes, of course!"

Please prove me wrong on this. Throw something out there, anything...it is your friend, you saw this take place while driving, you overheard it at a truck stop...PLEASE. Please don't tell me you are considering this?

Yes I do carry the unabridged copy of the penal and vehicle codes in the patrol vehicle. No I would not try and arrest for this, I would call the police department and let the deal with the situation.

As to the lighting, I saw a guy in a patrol area driving like crazy and doing burnouts, dounts, etc which in california can construe a traffic mistomenor. Not that I would arrest for it but... He had a blue flashing stobe on the front of the dash but I would not have said anything if he did not approach me and ask why I was recording his licence plate number.

I do not know what your problem is... I have to deal with all these people all day and I ask questions about things that I want clarification on. If you have a problem with me then use PM. Your comments are not approprate. I will pass the physc just because you said that. How do you know I would not pass the Phsych, you do not know me personally so don't start making comments like this. I maybe sounding a little harsh now but I have been through alot this weekend so don;t screw with me. Being falsly accused on assult with a deadly weapon then having to deal with this is more than enough.

Patrol vehicle? What sort of "patrolling" do you do?

Community patrols based on contract with local community areas and with RPD using all white crown vics with orange lighting, also patrol on bikes.

Moral of the story, do not have something nice to say then do not say. If your comments are warrented then go ahead. I do not see many others saying I will not pass the physc.

Again I ask,What Department are you speaking of? And if it is policy to carry the Penal MV Code, why can you not look up for yourself the laws regarding Blue Lights?

Nope, won't ask or comment til the other issues are cleared up. At this point, I can only imagine your relationship would be as a "suspect", with the department.
