What is YOUR opinion of other departments?

I was wondering what other law enforcement officers think of other departments. Specifically CHP, LAPD, or L.A. County sheriffs. Do you have differing respect levels for each one? Do you feel that they're all the same? Which do you think shows more professionalism? Thank you in advance.

I have respect for anyone that goes through the tough hiring process / academy and does this for a living. I don't respect any one department more than the other. IMO, they are all the same.

I have worked with the LA PD and LA SO on occassion and found them to be extremely competent and professional. I have never worked with the Chicago PD.

i've met officers who were a-holes and made me think lesser of their department. then i meet another officer from the same department who is a great person and makes their department look better.

    so it depends.

To clarify, by CHP I meant California Highway Patrol. Which is the main reason I ask. I work along side Deputies from L.A. County Sheriffs and they don't seem to hold high regards for them. They tease me because I'm going to take the test for CHP. They ask me why I want to be AAA with a gun. It's all in good fun and we all joke around like that, but I'm wondering if there might be some thruth to that. Thanks for all the replies so far. I'm glad to see there's a lot of camaraderie amongs LEO's regardless of the department.

There is more to LE than Traffic Enforcement, thats probably why they tease. CHP is all about traffic.

I love call taking and dope work.... traffic is secondary for me ;)

What is it that you specifically want to know? Are you looking at differences between departments….. like Dept. A vs. Dept. B. Or are you talking about differences in agency type like.. “Police Departments” , “Highway Patrols” , “State Police”. You are now getting into some night and day differences depending on what exactly you are asking.
