    Stolen lunch

Many of you may have thought of this, I know I have.

We have a lunch thief where I work. Things keep disappearing out of the break room fridge. If I made a tuna/cat food sandwich and it got eaten by the theif, could I be arrested? If I pee in my apple juice and the thief drinks it, can I be arrested? Even if it is clearly labeled with my name?

I'm sure if you said this openly amongst your co-wokers you wouldn't have a problem with stealing anymore.

Maybe not my lunch, but it wouldn't stop this person from stealing from others.

Perhaps you and your co-workers can try putting thier names on thier brown bags. I don't have a clue if this works or not. ;)
I read it in a magazine, I do not even remember where.....lol.

Anywho it was about ppl that steal lunches at work and I do remember it said that ppl are less likely to steal, a lunch, if they knew who it belonged to.
(shrugs)Short of setting up a hidden camera I guess it could help.

Sounds like you need (to do) a "steak out" to find out who's stealing the food.

Wow... this reminded me of what happened. My daughter and her friend went to McDonald's restaurant, and one of the kids who live below my apartment, stole a burger (lunch meal) from my daughter's friend. I called the officer because the mother next door to me didn't want to make a commotion about it. But the mother below our apartment agreed that I called an officer on her son. Officer (a friend of mine) asked me what I should recommend. My suggestion was to make him do car washes to pay off the burger's cost, he earned and paid to the girl's mother, and still wash the cars of all tenants non-stop and to show how he must learn to earn some bucks washing neighbors' cars. That did the trick, he stopped and learns to earn some bucks washing the cars and doing the lawn stuffs. Hehehee...never seen an embarrassment on his face, a crying face. That was 3 years ago. Funny.

I agree. Should have a hidden camera installed in the lunchroom area to nail the thief.

Ahhhhhhh! I have to take down the shotgun I have rigged.....:(
Orleander, not the best way to handle things. My advice is talk to your security staff or try the hidden camera with mgmt approval. My experience is if they are taking lunches, they are stealing from somewhere else.

When all else fails...blame the fat kid ;)

This was happening where my wife worked...people kept stealing her lunch that was in tupperwear. So she puts up a sign on the refrigerator that says "I don't mind you stealing my lunch, but bring back my xxxxxm tupperwear" The next day a pile of her tupperwear appeared on top of the refrigerator.

Maybe the person responsible is under severe financial burden. Isn't it the nice, liberal, fee-good thing to do to always bring TWO lunches, one for the thief? After all, he would not steal if he he did not have to, or if his childhood had been better, or if society was better.................................

If not answered, I do not believe you could be. As long as you don't divulge the purposeful booby trapping of the meal. But, if it makes the thief sick, there is the great possibilty of your being sued civily.

There is case law out about a man booby trapping his business after several break ins, and he was successfully sued. I believe he was convicted of a crime also

Maybe he/she either has a financial woe or she/he has an eating disorder that cause a person to steal and wolf down over and over until stuffed? The one good tell-tale sign is to look at the person who is gaining rapidly. If not, maybe she/he did have a financial problem and didn't want his/her boss to know that he/she gambles the money away? Some people. The last time I remember working at the place, I put jalapeno oil in the food, and waited and waited becuz I was puzzling of who stole my lunch a few times back in 1990. And popped came a lady with watering eyes and red lips and she was gurgling the water down her throat like there is no tomorrow. Funny. It was a wonderful trick just to teach her a lesson not to steal our foods. An employer later fired her. We don't pity her.
