Has this happened to anyone before?... I have finished all my paperwork and waiting for "that call"... The academy is slated to start Sept. 20 and I have not heard anything. Is this common? Do I assume that I have been DQ'D

Being DQ'd usually involves a " dear applicant" letter.

What is the latest that a person could be called to report to the academy? Esp from out of town.

I was given less than 24 hours one time. Needless to say, I had to turn it down, for I was slated to start in NC a couple weeks after.

You just never know what will happen when dealing with the Government. Miles and miles of red tape, budgets, staffing...etc.
You may still be starting. They may be having a delayed academy class due to sick time, hurricaines, people quitting, budget money not coming through. There is a million things that can happen.
It'll start soon enough. Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress.
Thanks for all the insights... I just received my scores from the PA State Troopers exam. Now, I am in a dilemma, I passed both the oral and written. Should I go for State Trooper or take PG County if called. Any advise would be greatlt appreciated.
The choice between the two would have to be a personal one. Being a Trooper or Deputy has it +'s and -"s just like every other job. I'm a City Officer myself and couldn't imagine being anything else.

Sit down with a pad of paper, write down all of the benefits (health, dental, optical), and compare the opportunities of both agencies as far as K-9, SRT, Narcotics, etc. and then compare the pay and retirement. Someone will come out ahead. Just my .02.
