How do they sleep at night?

Have you guys ever wondered how defense attorneys sleep at night? I went to court for an assault with a deadly weapon. Defendant kicked a relative in head rendering him unconcious for sometime. I had to go to court because the victim is working in another state but still wants to press charges. K

So I am called to court to testify Prop 15 (testify to the witness statements, because they were not found). The defense wanted it dropped because he didn't feel I was qualified to testify. OMG!!! I have taken the class and am certified. UGH!!! The DA asked me about something my partner did, so I answered, again the Defense wanted it dropped because Prop 15 doesn't include statements made by other law enforcement officers yada yada yada. LOL How do they sleep at night? (A wolf in a cheap suit) lol

The lawyers that I call the biggest assholes when I have a case are the ones that I would use to represent me if I had a legal problem and got jammed up.

I was always under the assumption that a defense attorney was there to represent their client. Not " Get them off ". I agree we need to make sure everyone is afforeded their rights but when someone gets off on a stupid word or wording its BS and THEY are not the ones telling the next person to run across this person that their loved one will not be coming home..... DUI's especially Tick me off on this one.

    You have got

    Video/Audio ( Guy drooling on himself )
Blood and breath sample ( If breath is .12 or under )
    SFST's

and STILL there is room for arguement . Give me a break. Open the court for IMPORTANT crimes so IMPORTANT CRIMES get enough attention. ( not that OWI's are not important ) 98 Percent of them are open and shut cases.

They have a niche in the food chain. I've met some who are otherwise decent people doing their job. Unfortunately, we all remember those obnoxious ones who put money first, construct a defense case by insulting police officers, intimidating witnesses, and posturing for the media.

I recall one elderly attorney who specialized with DUI cases, but he only did deferred prosecutions (as allowed by law), where the facts were stipulated and would not represent, or take to trial a "not guilty" client. His effort was getting clients to accept treatment. He did his work at the "source" of the problem, pushing alcoholics to admit a problem and sober up. He had a lot of respect for LEO's, and required his clients to publicly apologize to police officers for nasty/drunken behavior. Unfortunately Mr. Alva Long Esq. passed away a few years ago. He was a good guy.

    Goldstar,

You may need a vacation. I notice that quite a few normal and common things have torqued you off lately. Not that I blame you, but you may need a break to re-gather your perspective.

Regarding the defense attorneys.......Our judicial system is based on the premise that it better for to guilty men to go free than one innocent man to be imprisoned.

TX I agree, my department has madatory OT, and I am working 6 days. I would not say that the things that are torqing me off are a normal reaction. I am just asking for others opinions on situations that are happing in my shifts and my life. I don't think that any amount of time off would help me gain perspective as long as I have a concious and care about my job.

I was always under the assumption that a defense attorney was there to represent their client. Not " Get them off ".

A defense attorney's not supposed to lie, but their job is to look out for their client's best interests. It would be unethical for them not to plea bargain or get them off by showing reasonable doubt.

There are a lot of ethical defense attorneys I've heard of that won't defend a case if they think their client is guilty. They would just try to find a plea bargain.
