    Psych test

An agency I had applied to sent me a ding letter saying that my psych test results excluded me.

Puzzling as I provided all information in depth and HONESTLY, and passed polygraph as well, which asked many of the same questions.

Can you go into more detail as to what may have excluded me/what is looked for on the psych tests?

Was the test the MMPI? This stands for Minnessota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.

Like stump said, it's not pass or fail, but rather makes a profile of your personality. There is a particular profile that has been deemed most suitable for LE.

    don't feel bad.

I had a friend who wanted into LE soooooo bad. He was the greatest guy you could know. He would do favors for people that others were just to busy to do.

This guy was rejected by several PD's, mostly for the MMPI.

He shifted gears a little and took college EMT courses, then got himself hired by a private ambulance company. A few years later he finished his Paramedic training and joined a large city FD, as a paramedic. A few years later he is now a paramedic assigned to a SWAT team, and has reveived LE training and runs every SWAT call. Guess what, his MMPI score changed, and I can see the personality change. His good traits did not change, but he has really matured.

TXI1, the MMPI was one of them.. They have elected to elaborate further as to specifically what it was.. Odd, and a bit discouraging, but still pressing on with other departments.

It would just be helpful if I knew what part I 'spiked' on the test. <sigh>

I was just wondering if anyone could give an example of a question or two that's on the psych test, I'm just curious.

It's been sometime but some questions that I recall were on the MMPI (Your responses are answered with true or false only).

    * I love my mother and father.
    * Sometimes I feel like smashing things.
    * I would like the work of a florist.
    * Sometimes I feel like there is a band tightening around my heard.

It's something like that. And, I have no idea HOW they come up with a profile of someone with these kinds of questions.

One thing I recall about the psych evaluations too is that it can depend upon WHO is rendering the opinion. I mean, it seems to me that you could give the results to five different shrinks and they'll render about 5 different opinions. My point is, these opinions can change unless you really have some serious mental health related issues.

The MMPI gives three choices of answers; True as it relates to me, False as it relates to me, unable to amswer.

One statement is "I enjoyed playing drop the hankerchief when I was a child"

I had to answer "unable to answer"

    Other statements:

Sometimes voices in my head tell me what to do.

    I sometimes get angry.

    I have regular bowel movements.

    People are basically crooked.

I think the test is about 600-800 statements.

Holy crap....I would be stir crazy by the end of 600-800 questions!!!! You would think I would be used to it with two young children and a hubby that constantly asks,"Honey do you know where my __________ is???" (fill in the blank, it's been asked)

The examiner told hubby that his pscych-eval established that he had the personality of someone that doesn't like to be messed with. That's funny.....I mess with him as often as possible. ;)
