when I went on my first ridealong, the officer told me not to touch anything at all, or it would be the end of the ride.

People are getting hostile here! I think it's time for an intervention.

I always find it amusing on police forums to see which LEOs lose their heads because someone else doesn't share their opinion. I think that part of being a good officer is being able to accept different opinions without feeling like you have to attack others or force your views on them. I think that's where the real pschology is.

Mr_Trouble~ When you said, "Island_Girl....you saying that civilians have no place in a police car is like saying women have no place in law enforcement"......what were you saying?

I think a better analogy is in order. LMAO....just a thought.

    Must make mental note!

Note to self: Don't anger Stump! I repeat, DON'T ANGER STUMP!

Nothing wrong with letting loose a little tirade every once in awhile. (Not like I've ever done that!) Just don't aim it at me, 'cuz I was gettin' a little frightened there and you weren't even mad at ME!:p

    Well put.

Solego, if some "fat" kid is pushing buttons in your car then who's fault is it? You're a cop right? Lay down some ground rules for anyone riding in your car. Maybe you just don't want to share your donuts with anyone.
Just had to say that that was a great comback Mr. Trouble!! I can see how Solego feels to some extent though. If I was a chemist working in a high radioactive lab :D (yeah right) I wouldn't want someone asking me questions all the time and hanging around doing nothing. But then again Police Officers are not chemists... wait, I take that back. Most PO are not Chemists (no offense to anyone intended) Just before you say anything Stumpy :D.

Anyways, the Police are there to help people to to create a good rapore with the community. What better way then for people to actually gain an understanding of what a PO daily job was like. It's not all donuts and car chase (ha ha ha). OK bad joke, but like many people stated, rules should be layed out before the start of the ride and should be followed or the ride-a-long should end. But, I would bet my life that many a police officers partook in ride-a-longs before they became police officers.

One more thing, YOU LIE STUMP, YOU LIE!!!

Even with the disdain layed down in my absence, I must say that I believe that Collarhound was a little more, make that a lot more disrespectfull than Solego has been at times. :D

I think ride alongs are a great way for people to learn more about a police officers job. Of course I'm sure some police officers have had bad experiences with ride alongs.

    ride-a-longs

If I could write in on this issue

Our agency encourages ride a longs. For all the reasons given in previous posts. Ride-a-longs are one aspect of community policing and I agree with the previous members.

Stump, thank you for calling a the kettle black. Like you I am tired of the officers who live their carrers like it was a Saturday eposide of "COPS", who pretent to know more, and act as if the job owes them a living.

I agree with Abritz, Collorhound was more disrespectful than Solego. Yet, Solego called me a "retard" in July, I do not hold a gruge. I just consider the source and go on.

In our profession we will have those individuals who for what ever reason will be hostile ........ we must remember our professionalism......

Whoa...sorry I did not catch this thread earlier....

Please keep in mind, we encourage opinions and ideas, but bashing people will not be tolerated.

Solego, don't make me spank you!
