    Can I refuse?

Anytime you write a check they want a phone number and/or driver's license. Can I refuse to give them this info? Why does any store need that information?

Of course you an refuse to give that info, and the store can refuse to accept the check.

The info is necessary to locate and/or prosecute you if the check is bounced.

They have to make sure that its your check and you spending the money. Not some punk that stole your purse or check book and wants a new TV or something.
