    I wonder how many departments that don't allow legacies practice affirmative action.

    I think legacy points are going to be found predominatley up north. I say that because I've never heard of them down here. We do however have what we call the good ol boy network. I will tell you that the S.O. and P.D.'s are big time into that. We just hired 10 people, and ALL of them knew someone in the dept. before they were hired. I'm not saying we hire bad officers, in fact we have a really good group 8 14 21 years of experiance coming from other agencies. However, if people don't know you it makes it really hard to get hired on. That being said on the other side of that sword you could say that we get better rookies because they've already proven themselves somewhere else, or the command staff already knows them and has a more in depth knowledge of the rook. I on the other hand didn't know anyone at the dept. when I first considered them, I made a name for myself at the academy by being a little bit of a PT guy. (not trying to be conceided, but I just happened to be in better shape than most) I got asked to put my app. in.
