    Unpaid Speeding Ticket in GA

Unpaid GA traffic ticket ... HELP!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I live in GA. Two years ago, I was stopped for speeding in Gwinnett County outside of Atlanta. I was wrong, I went to court, pleaded nolo, and went home. I didn't have any cash on me that day so I sent in a money order to the addy on the bottom of the ticket and never checked to see if it had been received. Come to find out today as I'm getting my paperwork together to apply for Officer Candidate School that there was a bench warrant out for my arrest for an upaid ticket, this very one. Uh oh. I'm going to call the court house tomorrow to find out what to do. But I'm very worried because I don't have the cash to pay off what I'm expecting to be a rather sizeable fine right now (the original ticket was for $60). Will I get arrested? Can I work out some sort of payment deal? What's the best way to go about getting this situation fixed ASAP? I know I screwed up in not following up ... this is totally my fault. I'm just trying to get this corrected in the least painful way possible.

    Thanks all

Our court won't allow layaway on tickets. You will have to pay penalties and the like but if you are going into the Military and also to OCS they might not charge you since you will learn about following things through, be more responsible and to see things to the end. There is a GA dep on this board and a hillbilly they might be able to answer your question. Good Luck.

Tx are you playing nice?

CALL the judges office who issued the warrant and they can answer ALL of your questions much better then probably anyone here.

It is funny though that GA puts traffic bench warrants into NCIC but of course there is NO extradition outside of GA. I had run someone who came back as an NCIC hit from GA but I coudn't do a thing about it.

    That's funny!

You *should* be able to avoid an arrest if you contact the court and pay the fine and any late fees. Since your license is probably suspended also, you're gonna have to cough up some bucks to the Ga Dept. of Motor Vehicle Safety, ala GSP.
This is unless, of course, you kept the money order receipt. That may help.

mcsap- When they are entered into GCIC they automatically go to NCIC.

Thanks all for the help ... I didn't expect to get so many replies so quickly . I will be calling the court house tomorrow as well as DMV.

Don't to tell the person over seeing your entrence into OCS. Also let them know it's been taken care of.

I do have one more question in regards to the possible suspended license ... I bought a new car last year and when I applied for registration nothing came up. Also, my car insurance was renewed last week for the next 6 mos ... I have had no problems with it in the past couple of years, no major increases or what not. Wouldn't a suspended license have popped up on my driving record and prevented me from doing these things?

Not in Mich. Our SOS offices are so screwed up that you can register almost anything in your name w/o a license and have it slip through.

You should call the DMV like yesterday and ask them if you are suspended. !!

    UPDATE:

Well, I called the court house. Turns out there are no additional fees or penalties, they just want the original fine of $60. I was told I could send it in or drop it off, but considering my current status as a bonafide wanted criminal , I think I'll go the Post Office route and send it overnight with signature confirmation. Also, I called the DMV, and my license hasn't been suspended. I feel immensely better than last night, and I have learned two very important lessons: 1. speeding is never a good thing, but its especially not the brightest of ideas in Gwinnett County and 2. always follow up and get a receipt.

Thanks again for all your help :D
