To Rat or not to Rat?!

I have 2 hoodlum brother in laws.... They have stolen from everyone in the family over & over, and everyone else they can steal from too. They are both into drugs, doing & dealing. We have had enough of their Bull Crap, and if either steps foot on my property, I will call the law.

I know they both have several warrants on them, one even escaped from one department while waiting to be picked up by another, I would feel safer if they were behind bars (the longer the better) because of threats they made to us (we have custody of a neice & nephew through DHR and 1 brother in law threatened to burn our house down if we file for AFDC because he will have to pay that,,, a whole $95 a month).

This is my question, Should I tell law enforcement where they are and can I do it anonymously. I never have been one to rat, but when I fear for my familys safety I have this natural instinct telling me to. Family or not, I feel that no one should have the right to step on anothers and steal... or threaten them with their safety.... and I have had enough of it!

And if I can't do it anonymously, it will cause a family war!

I cannot see why you won't be able to do it anonymously, cant you get a friend to do it.

It will not cause a family war..whether you turn them in anonymously or not. The family you have is more important than the two BILs who whacked up the whole things and considerin' they're dangerous as you described 'em. File the temporary retraining order against both of 'em. If I was in your shoes, I would:

    1. Turn them in no matter what. LE will thank you for helpin' em.

    2. File the temporary retraining order immediately since you may not know when they're comin' out of jail or prison.

    3. So, file AFDC, your nephew and niece needs some things for clothings, foods, medical, etc...He can't tell ya not to file AFDC. He's a dad so he gotta pay child support. He can't blame the kids.

    4. Keep your families away from both of 'em.

    5. Cease contact with the brother-in-laws immediately since both of 'em givin' your families threats which not good and which may turn into reality. (As true as it sounds, some threats, that we don't believe, have turned into reality.)

Good luck. Go ahead and turn them in now before it will get pretty worse. It happened to my friend before she filed TRO, it will happen to you and your families.

I agree my family is more important, my husbands whole family thinks family matters need to be settled by family... not LE. If anyone else in the family found out I turned them in that would make them mad at my husband, like they would think he had a part in it. I am not worried how they think of me.

    1. I have set up meeting with my cousin ( local LE) to discuss with him.
    2. Am waiting for them to set foot on my property before I file restraing order, the more charges the more likely they will stay behind bars. Hoping anyways!
    3. Filed AFDC... just think it's a darn shame that a parent doesn't want to support his kids. And where else can you get 24 hr a day daycare, clothing, & food for $95 a month and have no responsibilties whatsoever!
4 & 5. No family contact is what we have done. Except an occasional run into situation at WalMart. If they call we don't answer.

As many warrants as both BIL's have, I don't understand why they aren't behind bars anyways. They aren't too hard to find. Are they lost in the paperwork?

I hope other officers on this board will suggest any other ways. Keep us post of what happening.

I hope everything will smooth out. I know it's not gonna be easy. The families will someday realized that threats are more serious than what they thought. I have similar situation of a deaf friend. Her ex' family was upset with her. I believe her, my neighbors believe her, we witnessed what happened outside and INSIDE in their home, the non-deaf guy's family never seen or hear what happened in their home. Still they called her a liar that he wasn't makin' threat, abuse, or have a firearm. She filed TRO against him, he was arrested. And it made his family angry at her for reportin' him for a violation. No wonder their son kept a secret from grandparents (guy's parents), he claimed his mom lied. He was abused physical, mental, and emotion. He was telling a different version to us than what he said to his grandparents. Good luck and keep your family strong especially for nephew and niece. They're precious children.

It is serious question to me. A person needed a help regarding BILs. Reminded me of the same situation that my deaf friend is in.

BTW, I seen similar family problems lately around my city here in Los Angeles County.

Thanks Whitewolf... My reasoning for posting was to get professional advice... and I appreciate yours.

Yeah, but she's not the only one. I have seen some. It's hard. Drugs damaged the delicate brain cells so they transformed 'em into more dangerous persons. If they have not used drugs, they're be more happy and wonderful adults. But both alcohol and drugs carry the same things: they destroy the brain cells that were used to control our behaviors and logical thinkin'. After they were destroyed, then their moods, behaviors, and thinking changed them into more dangerous people. Scary as it sounds.

Step up to the plate and turn their *** in. Who care's if they know big deal. I had my own damn brother arrested for trying to kill my mother. 2 years prior to that I had him picked up on felony firearm possesion, and a FCJ warrant on a traffic ticket. I don't care who they are, if they have a warrant or have committed criminal acts then they need to be in lock up. Brother or not I don't give a ****. I don't want to give him the chance to steal or hurt anyone else. I'm not scared of my brother, eventhough he is stronger and bigger then me. I know when time comes I can take him down/out as I almost had to the day he tried to kill my mom.

I don't know how you have waited this long to without doing something. You know what you want to do and you know what you should do. SO DO IT!

When you make the call just tell the who ever you talk with to please keep you name out of it.

You should not have to live in fear from **** heads, family or don't.I'm sure your not the only person in you family who feels this way and someone will back you up.
Personally, I would have taken care of it a long time ago and would have made sure they knew it was me who did it.
