Points do NOT transfer from state to state as the point systems vary greatly. So, if you pay your ticket ,it will not appear on your MD driving record... UNLESS

    1. You fail to pay or respond to the ticket in which PA will send a notice to MD asking them to suspend you ( and MD will do so )

    2. The offense for which you are cited carries a mandatory drivers license suspension which will be sent to MD and they will suspend you. ( passing a stopped school bus )

23 over is NOT a suspendable offense in PA ...UNLESS

    1. You were in an active construction zone in which case 11 or more is a mandatory 15 day suspension.

It does vary from state to state. Contact your local DMV. NY is only recipricol with Ontario (Canada) and DWI & DUI chrages.

On your citation there is a special block checked off if it was an "active work zone". Look at block 25 , way over to the right underneath the total fine amount. Also , such a fine would be doubled if this were to apply.

If your total fine was $161.00 , you were not charged as being in an active work zone. That is the proper fine for +23.

Reciprocity has nothing to do with the transfer of points. It has to do with honoring a SUSPENSION imposed by another state on you in your home state.

I know EXACTLY where the 81/83 split is and it is becuse of so MANY crashes especially with fatalities in that area. Speed is properly enforced quite heavily there and yet people refuse to slow down. You wanna play ? You gotta pay.

If you failed to respond since April , you are currently suspended in both PA and MD. The only way to lift the suspension is to..

    1. Pay the fine in full by mail, I would suggest certified mail to be sure it gets there.

    2. GO to the judges office in Harrisburg and either make a payment plan with them. They will give you several months to pay it off.

    3. GO to the judges office in Harrisburg and plead not guilty and put up the required collateral to have a trial.

There could be additional costs since this went to a warrant.

Once you take care of the ticket, PA will notify MD to lift the suspension on your license. You may have to pay a reinstatement fee in MD but I don't know for , ask your dmv.
