Well all I know is that what I know is what I said and I always post what I know and sometimes what I know and what I post get confused with what I know I post and I don't always know what I post.

You thought YOU were confused? Umm, what was the question?

"FBI Clearance" means a fingerprint clearance through the FBI. Different positions and state laws vary, but that's pretty much what it means. I've had DANC's (Decennial Address and Name Checks) done on me numerous times for different jobs, but that only goes back 10 years. Recently some of my work required what was called a Class One Clearance Card which I still have now.

In my state (Arizona), certain jobs and industries require either a Class One or Class Two clearance card. You got to a local LE agency with a fingerprint card, get fingerprinted and it's sent to the Department of Public Safety. DPS sends all the information gathered (there's about 3 pages of things like "have you ever committed...?") and sends it to the local FBI field office. About 3 months later (or when hell freezes over, whichever comes later), DPS gets sent back the results from the FBI, then they determine whether or not you qualify for a Class One or Two card.

If you have a prestine record according to the FBI, you get a Class One, if slightly tarnished (e.g. non-criminal, probably mostly traffic-based) history, you get issued a Class Two card. If there is even one criminal count against you that you were convicted of, you get a nice little letter from DPS and you are disqualified from the position.

From the back of my card:
    ---------------
    ARIZONA FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE LAW

THIS FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE CARD WAS ISSUED
PURSUANT TO ARS 41-619 AND ARS 41-1758
    ---------------

Check it out online by doing a search for "Arizona Revised Statutes" and click on whatever the first link is, then look for the sections above for more info.

    Hope that helps. ;O) Cheers.
