    Is this a ticket?

I was riding home on my motorcycle, and got stopped for an illegally altered plate. I sanded off the the paint on the "J" and replaced it with another color, so the plate reads the same, except for the "J" being in another color. I repainted the "J" for my wifes first name. I have been riding on this plate for over two years, and was under the impression, that if your plate number was correct and you have the current registration sticker all was good. COMMENT EDITED BY metallicat The actual infraction is "LIC PLATE OBSTRUCTED ( ALTERED BY PAINTING)" ord. 435.10 I have tried to find this ordinance with no luck, anybody know how I can fight this stupidity?

Moderator comment: DO NOT USE FORMS OF RACIAL SLURS. Thank-you.

Yep, get a new plate and don't mess with it!

You can't alter a plate in Michigan for sure, i'm pretty sure that's standard for every state. Its not stupidity....its the law and its for good reason.

People try altering their plates for various criminal reasons. Making 3's into 8's etc. See the problem there?

    What the stud said :D

Felony in NC to alter a state issued license plate. Though changing the color and not the number/character may be pushing it, its still illegal.

One can only be so Open Minded before all that mind **** spills out, stains and ruins everything.

Look, when that officer saw a red J on a lisence plate, A big red flag went up in his mind. It is 100% illegal to alter your plate in Florida (may be a felony, don't know...), and I am pretty sure it is the same in all states

The plate doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the state. Quit whining and pay the ticket.

Whats really funny is that plate has been like that for 3 years, and I ride almost everyday, and have never been stopped or questioned about it before last night. More often that not, I've been stopped by patrolmen, just to look at the bike and admire it.

Whatever dude. I'm only telling how its been for me. I'm not saying it happens all the time, but it has happened. I'm guessing the cops here in Cleveland have a bit more time on their shifts than you guys in the DC.

Let me guess you never get speeding tickets either because your bike is really shiney and the radar just bounces off and cant get a good read? Yea such a hot ride eh? Sounds like some other guy we heard a few days ago. ;)

............my wife digs her nails into my ribs if I even think about going over the limit. I don't have a "hot" ride, but it is different than your average bike.

Thanks for the answers I got. I'll get another plate.

All the best to you all, I'm glad you decided to be cops, and I salute you!

Sounds like the guy in California with the 1986 Iroc Camaro with blue flames and YOSEMITE SAM mud flaps. They admire your bike my white wonder bread *** son. Your bike aint all that, and your screwed up. If any cop just let you drive away with that plate after stopping you then they need to go back to the academy. Someone's big ego got crushed by a officer that was just doing their job. Take it like a man cause you got SPANKED.
