    Another Physical Requirements Question.

    Hello Officers,

Im a 23 year old Computer Science Major in North Carolina. I applied to a Large Dept. last year and I took all Pre written and physical test. Out of 500 applicants it was cut down to 50 for background. I made Background and I have no criminal history. I know I didnt make it because I was against people with previous law enforcement experience. But I digress that is simply my history.

Im am a diabetic that is in good shape. I practice Judo and can physicaly preform the task of the career (I dont say job because I'm really want to begin this). Is that enough or do I need a Cure! I know that they probaley looked at my Medical/Personal History and know. Im just looking for reassurance. ^_^

Depends on the type of diabetes and how it affects you. Don't think that only prior experience LEO's are all they are looking for. A good candidiate with a good background is worth the investment. Having to re-train a person who was an officer can be more difficult than starting with scratch.

Our hiring is solely based upon your score , no points or preferences are given to former or current officers.

Would your doctor certify in writing that your diabetes does not limit or inhibit you from being able to perform the duties of a police officer ?

There are a lot of officers hired who had NO prior experience. We hired a 38 yr old with no LEO background.
