    Hey Mac,
Is working at the main checkpoints something that you have to wait a long time to get into? I can't think how to word my question, so I'll give you an example... I know that to work the day shift here, you have to have senority and it takes years, because it is considered the Prime shift. Is it like that for working the border patrol?

Actually no, they tend to put trainees on the checkpoints more than anything else. They rotate everybody, once the probation period is over, through all aspects of being an agent. That includes horse patrol, ATV patrol, bike patrol and even in some instances of being an observer in the helo or aircraft. Seniority does come into play when you rotate into prosecutions, i.e. presenting cases before the judge in Federal District Court, followups in prosecutions, etc. They want all their agents to be well rounded.

Ok, I wish they would do that here, instead of putting someone in one position/shift/job duty and not give them more of an insight into anything else. You are really making a good case for your job, Mac... almost makes me want to become one!!!
And by the way - you still don't scare me with your "hormones". I can take it!!! :p

Come on down to New Mexico and we'll see if I can be "woken" up. As for shift work, everybody rotates including supervisors. You would do a month on days, month on swings and a month of mids. Even the PAIC's (patrol agent in charge). However, since I am not with the patrol anymore but work as an Inspector at border crossings, we rotate through every shift every two weeks. If you are under 37, apply. Nothing gained, nothing lost.

"just hope the process goes fast ...."

HELLO, it takes an act of congress for anything to happen in the federal government. I hope the process goes fast for you too, but it's best to expect the worst (at least a few months) and be thankful for anything good that come your way (at least a few months). LOL.
