(NYPD) will being in Auxiliary cop in the 67TH preceint and FDNY explorers help me..?

i am 17 years old now, i am an Auxiliary police officer in one of the worst areas in brooklyn(67th preceint, church avenue) and member of the FDNY expolrers program..

i was wondering...if doing any of these programs increase my chances of getting into PD alot faster or would it not matter at all?

    thanks.

If you are an Aux in NYPD and get in teh academy, at the end when everyone else is picking their "dream sheet," you will get a call from the Commanding Officer of the Aux section in Queens who will ask where you want to go...and it then "happens." That is how I got where I wanted. But you must have 2 or 3 years (I forget...its been a while) in good standing.

I never knew they existed until one of them got murdered in NYPD Blue.

Well, those two programs do matter. I just don?t think they?ll ?help? you get into the academy since getting into the NYPD now a days is relatively easy. Maybe in the future it will be harder to get in since there are very few entry level jobs out there in NYC that pay 37K a year.

Why don?t you try joining the police cadets, I believe that the police cadet corps program is such a more superior program than NYPD auxiliary because for starters they get paid. Also, they are guaranteed a spot in the academy once they finish the program. I was a police Cadet for almost 4 years and I had an o.k. experience. The only problem I had with the program is that it is extremely easy to get written up because some bosses know that there are no unions to watch your back. Thus, they give Command disciplines to cadets like if that **** were candy. So, when it comes time to get a command discipline adjudicated, you cant help but to feel ambushed. Nevertheless, the current C.O. of the Cadet Corps is Very fair at least when it comes to disciplinary matters.
