    Vehicle Search (Under the hood)

    Hi,

Alright so I am wondering if it is legal for a cop (Preferably in California) to make someone pop the hood to look under the hood for illegal modifications? From my understanding it was always that if you cooperated with the cop they didn't need to have any kind of warrant, but if you told them that you would not be willing to open the hood, they would have to get a warrant?

I've heard people on both sides, and they 'claim' they had done both. So I'm just looking for the truth to this matter. I myself have opened the hood for cops before, and have received a ticket before for this, but I did fix the situation by finally attaining the C.A.R.B. sticker that was required.

    Thanks,
    Drew
