    Background question?

I am in the background stage of a Federal Law Enforcement
agency. During the investigation, it was determined
that one of my old employers gave me an unsatisfactory
evaluation. This was about 5 years ago in 1999 and I quit
the employer since it was part-time.

Having learned about this recently, I was shocked because the
employer never informed me that I received an unsatisfactory
    evaluation.

I was just wondering from others, what effect this will
now have on my career? I was sent a packet to provide my
    side of the story.

Tell me one person who doesn't have SOMEONE who doesn't like them.

Any BI will look at this and want to determine WHY you were given a bad reference. Simply if you didn't get along with other workers, took too long on lunch breaks or were late 4 times in a month are not reasons to be concerned. If he accuses you of stealing or something along those lines than they might be a little more concerned.

You know what you did or didn't do. If you didn't do "anything", don't worry about it. Answer the BI's questions honestly and remember, there are a lot of people who at some point got fired or otherwise got a bad reference for what actually amounted to a personal conflict rather than a truly important matter.

    Thanks, MCSaP,

I agree with yuur statement. In fact, I believe that this supervisor
who was recently promoted at the time, used me as an example.
I received one written reprimand from him and feel that this
reprimand caused me an unfair evaluation. Nothing unethical
or illegal was the cause of this situation.

I have made arrangements to look at my files to get a
    better understanding.
