    Detroit PD BI investigation

I have just applied to the Detroit Police Department. I am 25 years old. I have completed the information card, and just turned in my written test scores. I passed with a band A rating on the written test . I asked them what was next and they said they would give me a call. I think my BI is next, which comes to my question. How much do they frown upon bad credit. I am doing my best to improve my credit and I hope they see that during their investigation. Also how long does the hiring process take.
Thank you all for your responses.

Well I am surprised to ehar that they are doing a BI on you. I spoke to my dad's friend who is a commander there and he said they are on a hiring freeze until further notice. No academy and to transfers. Anyway the bad credit is a big thing to them at the current time. They had a problem with (bad credit), seemed that all the ones stealign money, drugs, and guns from lock up in the past all had 1 thing in common, Bad Credit. But if you can convince your B.I. which will probaly be Inv. Sharper then he will push it through. Good Luck and keep me posted.

    Darrell, Thanks for your reply.
I just talk to a Detroit officer and he said there is no hiring freeze. The department is short handed. Also I asked what I could do to expedite my hiring process and he said to contact the recruiting office weekly. Do you agree or would that be over doing it?
    Thanks again.

How long is typically the hiring process for Detroit PD. I am out here in california all all departments take a minimum of 10 months. Hope it is not that bad out there.

Say you testified in court loooong time ago like about 7 years ago and you testified for the state. You did nothing wrong you were just a witness. My question is that if your applying for a PD and you didn't bring it up because the BI didn't ask if you have and also you dont remember the person you were testifying against name. Can the BI investigator find out that you were a witness even though the defendants name you cant remember? If so how? Just curious. And if they can, do they really care that you were just a witness testifying are they going to want what was said in court and all? thanks guys for answering. The reason I ask is that I was asked if I ever was infront of a judge and I said yes a few times traffic reasons. At the time I just thought they were asking as if I was a defendant but on the way home I put more thought to it as if have I ever been infront of a judge (for any reason even though for any reason wasn't asked but thats how the more I think about it the more it might have been that) and I dont know if I should call them and explain them about a testimony or just its no big deal. Again thanks.

Where you served any legal papers on that court case? Anything that might be in your file or purged in the court files?

I was given a subpeana (I think thats how you spell it) to appear in court on that day thats all I was received. Can the BI find out or the only way to find out is to know the defendants name? If the BI finds out I was just a witness would the BI dig deeper to find out why and what was the statement I put down or is it a no big deal to them? Also would the court still have record of that trial? How far back to courts keep the record? Thanks Darrell

They will keep a record of every case and thing said during a case in a court room. They purge it (like putting it in a closet and forgetting its there) but they can find it if they want to dig it up. I would tell him you have been to court as what ever it was witness, victi or suspect and the outcome and charge of the case.

    Who is your BI?

Does Detroit have residence requirements because in Philly you have to live one year prior to being hired so if I apply elsewhere and live there even for a month i cant apply back to Philly unless I have 1 year prior residence. Whats detroit police dept like is it worth applying too? how many police officers are they hiring and when is the deadline? Thank you Darrell

If you don't want to work in Philly (which is getting better) I would look into Phoenix PD, and Atlanta PD cause they are progressive departments. Detroit well I don't think it's a good place to work. I know a bunch of guys at DPD and they can't stand it there. Detroit used to have a residency requirement but the ACLU, EEOC and Labor board said it's illegal to force someone to live int he same place that they work. You can set a milage but not a specific requirement to live in that town.
