    Unhappy Insurance Question ---drivers License

First Of All Thanks For All Of Your Help.

I Have A Friend That Had An Oklahoma Dl And It Expired, He Was Pulled Over In Ohio :( For Sparks Coming Out Of A Car That Wasn't His (was Not Stolen) And Then I Find Out He Had No Insurance.

    He Lives In Ohio Now

He Is Getting The Insurance, But They Will Not Let Him Get His License Here Without Permit And The Whole Deal. And He Is A Native Of Ohio

    His Court Date Is Tommorrow!

What Advice Can You Give Me, And What Can He Expect At Traffic Court

There is not much advise anyone can give him. If he knew his OK one was going to expire, he should have renewed it while waiting to take the OH training class. He could have ditched the old license once he got his new OH license.

No insurance is a big thing. Expect a large fine and a suspension of up to 90 days if it's a first offense. They may drop the expired DL in a plea bargain for the insurance, if you're lucky and ask nicely.

He will have to get special hi-risk insurance coverage and keep his FR Proof (Financial Responsibility - proof on insurance) on file at the BMV for a set period (years). When he gets his license back (dunno if they'll allow work driving priviledges after 30 days - ask at court!) he should call a company like Safe Auto or Progressive to get insurance coverage. Reinstatment fees can be very high also, in the hundreds of dollars. He definitely has to get coverage when they let him drive again! State minimum is $7500 Liability Coverage - at least I think that's still the minimum...

I'm on ohio but I'm not an LEO or Lawyer. My statements are based on publications etc from the Ohio BMV.
