I Could Use A little Advice

    Hello Everyone,

I am sort of at a crossroads and could use a little help. I am in the backgroung phase for a large urban dept. in MD. I recently completed the civil service process for a dept. in PA which employs approx. 60-65 officers. My final ranking on the civil service list was #8 and this list is good for 2 years. This agency has already extended job offers to the first 5 people on the list. From what I hear 3-5 current officers will be retiring next year so I should be in pretty good shape to be hired when these openings become available. The dept. in MD that I mentioned earlier is appealing to me and will offer me the potential to start my police career sooner as they are always hiring in large members. My first choice would be the PA agency but I am a little worried about getting a job offer from them if the officers that are slated to retire do not before the list expires in June 2006. Has anyone else been in a similar situation where they are waiting for thier civil service number to be called for their first choice dept. but they are apprehensive about letting other opportunities slip away? Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Might as well apply everywhere you can. Getting in is the hardest part, best to get started as soon as you can.

    Good luck!
