Have any of my fellow Michiganders heard about the several counties who wont have night time officers because of budget cuts??? Will you state guys take over the area or will it just not be patrolled during nights?

Sanilac County only has 1 deputy and 0 troopers on from 3pm -11pm. Due tobudget constraints the Sheriff's Office there may loos all of their road patrol. MSP is so short staffed that they are lucky at some posts to even have a road patrol. St. Clair County (my county) went from having 6 troops on the road to barely getting 2 at times. Sanilac has laid off their deps 4 times in the laast 5 years then 6 months later found some money and rehired them back. I know the upsoming 120th State Police Troop School will lessen the burden on the smaller posts. As it stand they are apporxmately 500-650 troopers short in Michigan.
For us we dont have any county officers out after 17:00. Some towns don'thave officers past 23:00 and are covered by State Police, or like my town, I work from 15:00-23:00 and then I'm home on page from 23:00-07:00.

We have no weekend cops. 911 gets routed through the sheriffs dept.
My county........most of the smaller city officers are done at 3am. These are 1 or 2 officer towns. Some adjacent to our major city run all night but lesser staffed.
My old county where I went to school and was a reserve.....four deputies on after 21:00 - however two man cars so there were two cars, one for east, one for west. The local post usually had a car in the county for back-up and Ferris Police usually backed them up if it was within a few miles of the college.
YES, IT IS TYPICAL IN MICHIGAN

In our county, we used to have several town PDs that closed from 2300 -0700... in which case all callsm for service in those towns are routed to 911, and the sheriff department handles them.
Hmm...theres always sheriffs deputies and city police on duty around the clock here.
Some of the small dept's in my county go off at 2300 or 0300 and they ask dispatch to " put the State Police on call". State is then responsible until the next officer comes on duty ( probbaly at 0700) but they will not respond out unless it is a SERIOUS call.

I work county here. We are scheduled from 0800 to 0000. If something happens after that they call the last one off out of bed (usualy me). We don't call the highway patrol unless its something on the interstate and even then they get called out of bed. We take care of the rest of the county unless it happens to occure within one of the towns with a city marshal, then one of them gets called out of bed.
It seems to be pretty typical for the smaller populated and under budgeted counties. Rummer has it the county commissioners are going to allow budgeting for another deputy to increase us from 5 to 6. We should be able to get almost 24/7 scheduling then with the exception of a couple nights a week.
Similar here in my county..(McLennan County in TX)....a larger city like Waco has 'round the clock police services. My town in particular doesn't. The officers here typically end their shift at 22:00 hrs and go on-call until the morning when the next officer comes on shift (10-41) at 07:00.
That is pretty much the only downside I see with my future career in Law Enforcement. Not being able to sleep!! I'm sure our LEO's get used to the sleeping system though![]()

Some weeks I get called almost nightly, other weeks I might not even get a call. I usualy average 1 call out a week.
Some of the smaller towns/counties in NW Missouri have no one on after 2AM. Most usually have a call out car. Same with the State guys. They are on call out as well after 3AM. Around here it is all due to the budget.
It just seems to me that law enforcement should be the absolute last thing you would want to cut down in a budget crisis. Think of all the money wasted by theft and destructive criminal acts. Think of the citizens safety!
