Range of radar gun

At what range do you ususally use your radar guns (not laser)

- Handheld
- Moving
- Stationary with fixed antenna

I'm having a discussion wioth someone who's talking about a 1.5 mile range for handheld radar. I say that's possible with laser if you're a good marksman, bot not with radar.

At 1.5 miles, the human eye could probably not even discern movement, so it would be impossible to determine which vehicle is responsible for the reading at that distance, unless there was only one vehicle.

Also most smaller vehicles (read not a truck or SUV or Van) will not reflect a signal at that distance.

So the radar gun will transmit a signal that distance, but I doubt it would be useful.

2,000 feet is pretty much the max on laser and radar in urban areas. rural you could probably go a little further. you have to observe the violation with your eyes before you verify it with an instrument.
