    No copy for speeding ticket

    I was recently cited for going 56 in a 45. I was in the right lane, another driver was in the left diagonally in front of me. The cop cited me and never gave me a copy of the ticket.

    The ticket was turned in and I am a month out from being able to take the driving course.

    I would like to argue this in court. How should I go about this?

    Yes. I did not receive a copy and I had to call the court several times to track my ticket.

    I'm confused. What would argue in court? Do you dispute that you were speeding? If you WERE given a copy of the cite would you still be taking it to court? What state are you in?

    See if there are any walk-in times with the judge

    That way you can explain your situation and see if you still can do defensive driving.

    If you have a pre-trial conference, then you can negotiate doing a driving course there.

    Everyone NEEDS to understand that with 50 different states ( and other assorted territories) that there are 50 plus different ways of responding and handling a ticket. You can't automatically do in CA what you can do in PA.

    We do NOT offer driving improvement in lieu of points or a fine. We IMPOSE taking your drivers test over because you got too MANY points !

    Those who advise others here on how to respond should include what state they are from so someone isn't led down the wrong path.

    You go to traffic court with me and the chances of reaching a plea are slim. Why should I bother ? I had you, you got the ticket, only the judge can change or affirm what I did. There is no DA or jury at the district justice level with us.

    Also, persons who are NOT LEO's SHOULD indicate in their reply to that fact.

    Many come here to ASK A COP. That doesn't mean that non-LEO's shouldn't answer but some may assume that anyone who answers here is in fact a cop.
