Once you turn a ticket in....

Once you turn a ticket in, and the city clerk has turned that in, can you at anytime get the ticket back to drop it?

Or once its in to the clerk, then ther's no turning back at that point....

    Thanks,
    bb123

I've never tried after it's been entered into the "vault", computer system. Dropping it would be up to the ADA at that point.

Another one of those case by case, department by department questions!!!!

Here - yes. But then again what kind of ticket? civil infraction? misdemeanor? Parking?

In my Department, we're allowed to reduce tickets to a warning up to a day or two before the scheduled court day...all we have to do is speak to our records clerk, and tell her that we wish to drop the ticket.

If we have a change of heart on court day, we simply stand up in court and recommend to the Judge that the ticket be reduced to a warning. He's never gone against such a request to my knowledge.

Some Departments may have different policies and procedures, but thats how mine works..

We could amend the ticket at anytime with reason.

For several years we could tear tickets up as long as a complaint had not been typed up. However, they changed that and numbered the tickets. We were responsible for all tickets, and we had to account for each. We had no authority to change a charge or anything once it was written.

If we believed we made a mistake, we had to write a Dear Commander letter to account for the change.

Traffic tickets can only be withdrawn with a Sgt's approval. Anything higher must go to the Lt. or the DA.

In my area once the ticket is written there is nothing the officer can do to drop it. All tickets are numbered and each number has to be accounted for to the state courts administrator.

Wish I had a dollar for everytime someone I know has approached me for "help" with a ticket. The system prevents such "help" here.
