Speeding ticket

I'm in NJ. Last night I was driving on the interstate in a 65mph zone going slightly above the speed limit in the third lane, but so were many others. Driving down an incline, speeds tend to increase and there is often a police car parked in the median at the bottom of the hill. And there was last night. As I was approaching my exit just after the bottom of the hill, I worked my way over to the right lane and exited. By then, there were flashing lights behind me and I pulled over. I received a speeding ticket marked at 85mph and 'pace' is marked as the equipment. What does this mean? 'Radar' was not used.

He paced you at 85, meaning he was going 85 to get you.

Pace means an officer was somewhere behind you and measured your speed.

Why do so many people speed and then ask why they got a ticket on a police web site? Dosent it seem obvious that a LEO wouldnt be like "yeah that officer was in the wrong, you should be allowed to go as fast as you want whenever you want!"

It's the same reason that people get tickets and instructions on how to contest it in court, but still insist on calling the police station to cry at the officer's supervisor.
I guess they really expect that the officer is going to just take the ticket back and apologize when they do that. It couldn't be becuase they're so wrapped up in their little "poor me" world that they just want to reach out and try to hurt the job of the person or persons that they blame for their ticket.

I think alot of the time they arent trying to hurt the officers career, they just do it without thinking of consequence to anyone but themselves ( not claiming this is how guest05 feels/acts.)

[BS] you mean you don't do that? man, when they're going to get me fired over a ticket, i can't rip that sucker up fast enough. no ticket is worth my job; especially when they know the mayor's mistress, or someone like that. i don't mess with people who have a lot of pull. [/BS]

I'm not asking for a break on the ticket. I just wanted to know what a pace ticket was. Thanks to everyone who answered my question.
