Question The ticket was to be dropped but wasn't...

I am in Oklahoma and was riding a motorcycle for the record.

I got a ticket for reckless driving on a closed parking lot with no one in it. I basically was just sitting on the tank, and not going 5 mph under the speed limit, but actually less than 5 mph.

Well, I got the ticket and brought it to the student affairs as it was on a private college campus and I felt it was to extreme for what I was doing. Reckless driving was not exactly the proper offense that I should have been written for. What would he call a wheelie on a freeway? Attempted murder or Attempted suicide? To me that is reckless and from what the Highway patrol says, that depends but it would sound like reckless if there was alot of traffic around.

Well, they (student affairs) spoke to some other officers and agreed to have the ticket dropped. The Student affairs told me I would NOT have to show up for court b/c it was to be dropped.

I called the court house and asked on 3 occasions if she was sure I did not have to show up for court. She said my name wasn't on anything.

I call the head person at the Student affairs and said that the chief sent him a letter explaining that it was taken care of.

But then, I got a letter in the mail. Saying my license is to be surrendered and is suspened. It will be effective on the 13th of this month (which is weird b/c its a Sunday)....

Now here is where it gets weird. I got pulled over with a friend and the officer ran our licenses as we were riding our bikes. Nothing came out of it in terms of a ticket but she ran our license for warrants. We had none and went on our way. But since I didn't show up for court as multiple folks said I don't have to, shouldn't there be a warrant?

There is nothing. Then the suspension is for this reason....

    ---------------------------------

REASON: NON-PAYMENT OF COURT FINE AND COSTS
STATUTORY AUTHORITY: TITLE 47,O.S., SECTION 6-206(C) AND
    TITLE 22, O.S., SECTION 983 (C)

    -----------------------------------

So what does this mean? What do I do? I am really worried as now the student affairs will contact the police officer and I am afraid of getting harrased for no reason. But on a second note, I don't feel I should have my license suspended for a reason that should have been taken care oif already.

What is the next course of action that would be in my best interest.

Thanks for your time and your help,

First thing is to go to the court and plead not guilty so as to stop the suspension and any warrants.

Next, go to the dept that issued the cite and ask the officer for assistance. If not satisfied, go to the chief.

I suspect that the ticket was never officially dropped.

And in PA, the roads.lot at any school of any kind is considered a PUBLIC HIGHWAY strictly for enforcement purposes.

Lastly, you are not Evel Knievel. Knock off playing on a bike.

here's the wierd thing though. I was pulled over with a friend at a wilderness park. The officer agreed with the park ranger to let us go provided we had no warrants and to let the other motorcycles know that the curvy road back there is not for motorcycles to ride like maniacs. But we really weren't but was still not uusing our head to the best of its ability.

Well, to make a long story short. She let us go as we both had no warrants. And this was last Sunday. This was Printed out by the Dept. Of Public Safety on 6/3/04. So not long ago. The court date was May 21st I beleive. So the warrant should have been placed then, right? Not not at all until say, tomorrow after it had been reported to the DPS (Dept of Public Safety)...

I always thought that once your name is called, if you are not there, then a warrant is issued at that point.

I am a bit lost and quite worried.

You said to go to the court but the date has passed and in the rural town where I got pulled over, the judge only comes out once per month. So I am afraid at that point it would be too late.
About going to the officer, I did on a few occasions. The chief ( a different chief than the one who worte the letter to the student affairs office) rides motorcycles. I told him of the situation and he said that it may have been written a bit too extreme. He said he'd go talk to him and would let me know. I went back to him and he said the officer sounded good and to go talk to him man to man and be straight forward with him. I did and he told me he's not going to do anything about it. So, then I forgot to tell him thanks for his help, even though he wasn't much, and he told another officer who is new to not allow me any closer to him as he said "he is through with me. " from what the other officer said.

So Then I went back to the chief who rides motorcycles and I have ridden with him a couple times in the past and he said. He'll talk to him again but don't expect any guarantees. So, at that point I got nothing and heard nothing so I went to the student affairs. And they didn't say outright but have heard about this officer already and not in the best way.

I hear you about not being Evel Knievel. I guys there is a time and place for everything and this wasn't it.

    Thanks again......
