a 22LR round can travel more than 1000 feet, depending on the type of load.
I have been TOLD, some can even travel more than 1500 feet.
DO NOT shoot a 22. in the woods or the sky. Aim towards the ground.

BryGuy the thing about blowing away a squirrel was a joke ( http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=joke ). It would be nice to be able to go out in the local woods and shoot, but it seems it's not worth the risk just for the convenience.
