Admitting crime on radio, can you be prosecuted still?

This morning I was listening to the Howard Stern show and boy did they have a winning "family". Made me sick. A crack widow mother who received millions from 9/11. Her boyfriend who claims he is NYPD but quit because of a mental illness (bi-polar) and he beat the woman as well. He also admitted to smoking crack on the job, using it while at the shooting range, etc... a messed up teen who also smokes crack with them and among other things which i will not go into...

first off this lady brags about having an "open" life, etc... they got on the topic of the crimes she has commited in the past. She was caught as the get-a-way driver for a bank robbery but she claims she never served time and they let her go. Yeah right. Then she went on to talk about how she use to rob the ATM techs "for fun". She used bricks to knock the guy to the ground. Then she'd grab the ATM cartridges which contained a total of at least $60,000 in cash.

My question is - she has admitted to these crimes on the air and admits she and her crew were never caught. Can she be put away today? One of the guy's in the studio kept asking her "Where did this happen?" "When did this happen" "What did you do with the money?" but she did not answer...He was trying to get her to admit more because he said, "That is the most scumbag thing to do"

The so called NYPD guy is a joke. When Stern let callers ask questions there were a few NYPD LEO's asking him, "What are the first three letters of your tax ID?" he could not answer, "What sidearm did you qualify with?" He said Glock but could not answer what model or caliber, "You said you were at the range shooting MACHINEguns while you were high on crack, what type of MACHINEgun was it? NYPD do not have any MACHINEguns, Sub-machine guns we do. Are you a part of ESU?" he had no idea what to say to that!

But anyway I'm curious how someone could make a case against this scum lady. Using a brick to beat the ATM tech is not cool. And she's laughing about it...

Seems to me that there may be some probative value, but little evidenciary value without more details. If they were to look back at unsolved ATM tech robberies then maybe they could find some other factor to tie her to it (ie video footage that was not good enough to find her, but is good enough to match her). But she would have to be charged with a specific event on a specific day - not just "I robbed someone".

I enjoy a little Howard Stern myself from time to time. But, I think you have to remember that his show is basically "shock entertainment". I think that whole skit probably falls under that category.

the more i think about it i think you are right. it must have been all made up. but maybe howard stern did not know... but if you think about it - it makes sense these three (mother, BF, daughter) probably all went along with this story because it kept changing, live radio is beautiful..hahaha. oh well, disregard post then... it was entertaining to say the least.

As far as I'd read in local newspaper he was, due to
    threat of large fine.

Don't tell me he'd turn legit on us? :p

I heard the whole thing. The guy was definately not a NYPD cop or he could of answered some of the most basic questions. But rest assured that if there was a pattern of that type of robbery.....they NYPD will contact the show...get a copy of the tape....get a warrant....getthe phone luds....go to teh address and start questioning. It has been done a dozen times here in NY. It is not enough to arrest....but enough to open an closed case and start re-investigating. That is how radio greats Oppie & Anthony here in NY went down...they broadcast an illegal act (sex in St. Patricks Cathedral) a 3rd part was doing...NYPD heard it.....went there.....didn't see the act but the actors leaving...arrested themmmmused the tape as evidence....O & A were removed from the air.....day before the criminal trial teh male actor dropped dead of a heart attack!
