    Push-ups (how to get better)

I'm not very good at push-ups. I can only do about 17 before my arms give away. My goal is 50 push-ups. So, with all that said, I have two questions:

    1. How can I do better at push-ups?

    2. If physical test requires 35 push-ups (just an example), is that continuous or within a time limit?

I also have a question about sit-ups. Should my chest touch my knees or should I only lift up partly?

    Thanks.

I've been gradually increasing my push-ups by like 1 or 2 reps a day. Do I have the right idea?

yeah just keep doing them everyday and it will keep getting easier to do them. do a couple reps in the morning and then at night. drink lots of water and make sure to take a couple days off every week.

    1. Determine the maximum number of push-ups (repetitions) you can perform in one continuous effort.

    2. Do 2 sets at ½ the number of the push-ups you performed in your self test for 2 weeks.

    3. Do 3 sets at ½ the number of sit-ups after 2 weeks.

    4. Continue to do 3 sets. Add 1 to 2 repetitions per week when you can.

    5. Stir well. Contents may have settled during shipment.

    1. Are you male or female?

    2. Other activities, such as weightlifting, are extremely beneficial. Try bench press.

    1) Our academy has a fitness program for those needing help. Our staff teaches that you need to find your max number you can do....then get 80% of that and lets call that your "work load". You then do 1 set of your work load with hands shoulder width. You rest 2 minutes. You then do 1/2 of your workload doing diamond push-ups (hands together in center of chest with thumb to thumb and index to index). You then rest 2 minutes and do a regular set of max load. You do this 3 times a day. After teh first week you should add a 5 lb weight to your back. Same numbers with esame workout. Then after 2 weeks you re-evaluate your max load and repeat until you are happy with your results. Don't stop at your goal...go well beyond.
    2) As for your question on if there is a time limit....ask the recruiter. Some departments have a 1 or 2 minute limits....others do not.

    Male.

I'm thinking about hitting the weights (I'm not looking to build huge muscles).

Hit the weights and you will see a big difference. You will be amazed by how much the bench will help you. I did 80 in a minute last time I tried. Good luck.
And your whiney *** crybaby excuse would be....
