    Legal age in Michigan

I'm wondering what the consenting age for a minor is in Michigan. I'm a 24 year old male and I'm interested in dating a 17 year old male and having a sexual relationship. I know there was something that came up within the last year, stating that the legal consenting age for gay males was now 16, but is that dating or sex or what?

Can anyone help me here? Without nasty comments? LOL

Michigan don't have a 5 year law so the answer is yes. Although the parents can if they so desire to press CSC charges against you untill they reach the age of 18. Just be careful, better yet wait till they are 18. How does this 17 year old male feel about this? And if your only wanting this relationship for sexual uses then its a bad idea and you need to rethink this a lot.

Some states have a law that spells out the legal age lets say 16. Then untill that person is 18 it is CSC is the other half is more then 5 years older. like this 16 (girl) and 22 (male) concent can't be given due to the male being more then 5 years older then the female. Then at 18 the other party can give all the concent they wish. So this senario is ok 16 (girl) and a 17(boy) that is legal in that consumption of the law.

Well the links didn't work, but this is what I found. I guess the 18 thing was maybe old material. I will have to go back and look up another members post here about this.

Crazy thought just went through my mind..... Maybe it's not such a good idea to come to a pro-police website and ask for advice on how to rape a young boy? Sounds to me like you need to spend some time in Jackson, playing butt-tag with the big boys.

    Just my $.02!

Not that I agree with a 24 year old trying to have a relationship with a 17 year old, but I would hardly consider his post asking for"advice on how to rape a young boy." He is trying to avoid exactly what you are implying here.

To my knowledge the age of consent is 16 in MI. You could be 30 dating a 16 year old and you would be fine.

I am not an officer, this is something we have gone over in a CJ class recently.

Here is one resource to back me up....this looks almost identicle to the text we studied.

IMHO, the bottom line.... If you question "should I be having sex with this person", the answer is probably "NO"! If you have to ask the question, you already know the answer. Adult-Adult, I don't have any issues with it, but the State should not permit a child to consent to a sexual act between themselves and an adult. The kid can't drink, smoke, vote, buy porn, get a credit card, enlist in the service, buy a lottery ticket, etc... We have laws like this in place to protect our young people, but we say it's ok to have sex with an adult?

    Com'mon....

Dragon, In Michigan someone who is 17 years old is consider an adult. Not that I am condoning this as I feel the age difference is too great, but that is the law.

I beg to differ... A 17 year old is not legally bound to the same standards as an 18 year old. As previously mentioned, a 17 year old cannot legally consume tobacco, vote, buy lottery tickets, etc.... This is because the individual is NOT of legal age to participate in such acts. The legislature has determined 18 for all of these "less immoral" acts, but has determined that it is "ok" for this same person who isn't responsible enough to smoke a cigarette, to consent to engage in a sex act with an adult?

Originally from Michigan myself, I'm ashamed of the State for condoning such acts by such a legislation.

Not condoning anything here, just telling someone what the law here IS.
