As previously mentioned, a 17 year old cannot legally consume tobacco, vote, buy lottery tickets, etc.... This is because the individual is NOT of legal age to participate in such acts. The legislature has determined 18 for all of these "less immoral" acts, but has determined that it is "ok" for this same person who isn't responsible enough to smoke a cigarette, to consent to engage in a sex act with an adult?
Originally from Michigan myself, I'm ashamed of the State for condoning such acts by such a legislation.
