If I decide to become a cop, would I still be elegible for the draft, or since I am protecting the homefront, would I be excluded from the draft?

Congress hasn't voted on reinstating the draft, so why are you concerned about it?
There is not going to be a draft, so your question is moot.

IMHO, your chances of getting hired before age 21 are slim. And if the real draft is ever brought back, they start with the 18 yr olds and work up. Of course you could do the patriotic thing and enlist.
Creeper Cop
exactly, i hope your not one of those guys that ***** and moan about the draft.
OOWWWRRAHHHHH!!!!
Scared of a draft? Oh my........can you imagine what will happen when a 6'2" 300lb guy with a bat comes at him?
I dont think your job if/when you become a LEO would have any bearing on the ability of the draft board to overlook you as a draftee, but maybe an older vet who was drafted during the last enactment (Vietnam) could state more factually on this however, but I think if you were drafted, it had little to no basis on your civilian job, it was by other means of selection, such as age, marrage status, kids, sole child,etc.., Placement or MOS, once drafted, was selected based on education/knowledge or civilian job, schooling of the draftee, but As stated before, there will be no draft right now anyway..especially during an election year & the soon to be "turn over" of Iraq back to the natives, this is anti-war crap the media is attempting to spread, so that all of the mom's & grandma's say "not my little boy" and rise up against this war or the support to continue it, eitherway, if it does happen, I would hope the service to your country would outwiegh the service to your home town or city. Airborne!
Recondo
that was pretty well summed up recon.

Did I ever say I was afraid of the draft, or of it being brought back, or of me enlisting? no, so don't put words into my mouth. My point was can you be drafted (if a draft went into effect) if you are in law enforcement. Don't read into it or hurt yourself thinking about it.
Let me see if I can track it down, but I remember reading recently about the draft guidelines. Employment as an LEO has no bearing. It is more age dependant than anything else.

BElieve it or not, plenty f us floating around here have already done our time. I'd be happy to play in the sand, but the wife and 2 kids tend to disagree. Hell, I have a chance for a nice stint with our Special Operations Group, but it wouldn'[t fly at home.![]()

Ahhh, playing in the sandbox was fun....for about a week! I lucked out though, I was in the early days of Afghanistan, some heavy fighting...but short rotations. I was only there for 6 months, nevermind these poor guys now, stuck for 18 months and up!
The short answer is Yes, you can be drafted even if you are in Law Enforcement.
