And by the way, i will not sign up for the war. I do not believe in it. I think that as far as Iraq is concerned, it was a fight more to finish up the job his daddy wasnt man enough to do. As far as Afghanastan, Bin Ladin is more of a figure head than anything. What makes him think that as soon as they get him, that's the end of terrorism. It's not. Terrorism will always be around as long as there are people around. As far as Al-Quida, if he gets captured, somebody else will take his position and so on. It's a joke. Say what you will about me, but this war is something i do not believe in, and i can't fight and take peopels lives for something that i dont believe in. Sorry.

I will tell you one thing, i served for 8 years and if it came down to it i would not hesitate to put my life on the line for the sake of the American people. Think what you may about our president, but i will tell you this, he made a tough choice and he is sticking to it. He never said that by capturing Bin-Laden he would bring terrorism to an end. This is a GLOBAL WAR on terrorism!! So Please don't become a police officer with that attitude about going to war. If you don't sign up for the Selective Services, most agencies wont hire you anyway.Originally Posted by Salvatore

So.... because I have never been interested in the military or going to war, I should re-evaluate my profession as a law enforcement officer? I don't think so. I have been told by numerous military officials that the military is nothing like police work.Originally Posted by Norm357
Believe it or not, not everyone becomes a police officer to "serve" their country. Not saying that I didn't, but that wasn't the only reason.

OMG, K9, you are a cop? i guess you like violating peoples rights by editing the truth. People like you are the ones who got through the cracks during the BI.Ban me but know this, You are only silencing the truth.
Then maybe you should re-read your initial post because that was exactly what you were implying.Originally Posted by Norm357

And I respectfully disagree. His personal political agenda and opinion should have nothing to do with being a law enforcement officer on the street. Now, if this was brought to the job while working it would be a totally different story. However, I personally know many officers that would never serve in the military for this country and would never go to war. They are very against the war in Iraq and President Bush. This doesn't stop them from doing their job, and they do a might good job of it. It is all personal opinions and should not have a bearing on whether a person can be a police officer or not.
I can understand where you are coming from, especially after serving this great country. I just hope that someone else's viewpoint on a subject such as this would not affect how you would interact with that officer on the job. Nothing would ever make me assume someone is not cut out for the job until I see it for myself; not even someone's political, sexual, or religious orientation.
And I am curious, why can't there be discussions without personal insults such as "*****". Your post would have been excellent and not in violation of any rules if not for that one word. There are a million other adjectives you could have used that wouldn't have been offensive.

I Closed this thread (while K9 was typing his response). The thread had digressed to name calling, at worst, and a political discussion, at best.
If one wishes to discuss the liklihood of the draft returning and the political dynamics of such, take it to the appropriate forum.
If one wishes to resort to name calling and personal attacks, threads will be locked and people will be warned.
