Got the stuff on DNA collection, major case organization, have been all over my printouts of your correspondence and have the suggestions on getting her into the club, but cannot find any sources or links relating to tech. Is there an e-mail that I missed? Many thanks.

:D True. But he'd be the only boy on the stage. And I don't think the girls would like sharing their locker room with him.

I'd like to post a quick thank you for the responses here. My objective is to do enough research to keep any veteran cops who eventually read the book from throwing it across the room in disgust because I screwed up something that could have been corrected by research (my response when an author or screenwriter makes huge ER/trauma medical mistakes -- my previous area). You know, where the reader mutters, "Jesus, she could have just asked someone.

I don't, however, want to be responsible for making anybody's job more difficult. I'm very careful in writing never to tell exactly how things are done -- both crimes and the solving of them. I put in enough details to give the flavor of the thing, but not enough that someone could follow along using my books as a recipe.

That said, I have enough info to wire my girl, and know what to leave out as well as what to put in. I appreciate your time and thought on the matter. And I don't want the discussion to go into enough detail to cause anyone any problems.

    My sincerest thanks, again.

Thank you. Same with you on yours. I'll pick up a copy when it hits the shelves; looks like it'll save me from asking a lot of questions.

My wife left me alone with a case of Corona, a bag of limes and the cat. Beer is gone. What will I do with the extra limes and the cat?

Sarcasm? A good author, reporter, cop always asks questions. Nada wrong w/that. I merely was operating from an opsec point of view. This is an open forum, you may/may not be legit. I have no way of knowing. I didnt mean to sound offensive in my prior posts. If I came across that way,my apology.

If there are any Tech guys on this board , it is safe to assume that they too would be hesitant to discuss current collection methods and operations regardless of what appears in books or movies. You see, a compromise not only effects the integrity of an investigation but has potential dire consequences to personal security. My well earned .02.

No one is going to tell you about current technology being used by law enforcement. But, you can find stuff that's pretty cool at any spy shop to give you ideas. Most of it is stuff that was being used by law enforcement a few years ago. Time moves fast in the electronics world.

Absolutely NO sarcasm intended. Asking questions is essential. In situations that could compromise someone's safety or their investigation, I prefer to get everything I can via research, then ask any unanswered questions privately -- and in my current situation, I'm stymied for a number of reasons from doing that. A good book (and on your topic) would give me a lot of information without having to ask publicly.

No apology is necessary. I was sincere. I have very much appreciated your help with this so far -- this was simply one question you didn't answer that I needed an answer for.

I know this. I'm perfectly willing to provide ID to prove who I am (link to my site is part of that, but not all.)

And as noted, I don't need newest or best methods. I just need something that will keep readers who know how this is done from beating their heads against the wall in frustration at obvious, stupid errors.
