    Question Firearms in vehicles.

I have been told by my explorer officer that as long as i know the way to cary a firearm in my vehicle then i should be ok coming and going from the range and such. Im only 18 so i cant buy a pistol, but i do own two because they were gifts. If another city officer stops me on my way home from the range, what do i do?

Personally i would blantly tell him i have a pistol and i was comming from the range so they dont think i had it for bad reasons.

My question is, can i get in trouble for having a weapon in my vehicle even though i am underage to buy one. Cause there is no law that gives an age when you can own one, or is there? What about younger than 18?

I just would rather not get in trouble. And personally i dont think they can do anything and all i have to tell them is im an explorer and have them call my adviser if need be. But what if you are not an explorer and have it just for your own fun? what laws apply.

    Thank you guys for everythnig.

(K9Cop, i PMed you with this but got no response, just ignore the PM)

It doesnt matter where u are coming from. Being 18 has no legal reasons to possess a handgun.

I guess that would depend on the state.

Zanos, in what state do you live?

I would imagine that if it is against the law in Colorado for you to carry because of your age, then that would assume you would be going to the range, or hunting with an adult who is resposible for those firearms. Just a guess, but that would explain how you caould still participate in these activities as a minor.

Hopefully somoone from Colorado will be along to help you out. In Texas your age would not be an issue.

Try calling your state police. They would know, or ask: raymond.fisher@cdps.state.co.us about any laws pertaining to colorado.

    WRONG!

Depends on the state, and in Michigan you can legally own a gun at (I know) age 18, but you cant buy a gun until you are 21.

Transport your gun in a locked box in your trunk, any ammo should be in the glove box. They have to be separate in a vehicle.

Yes, a MI resident can BUY a rifle or shotgun @ 18 - MCL 750.223(2)

And, yes, you can BUY a pistol at 18, so long as it's a private sale and not an FFL sale - [FFL sale requires that you be 21] - MCL 28.422(3)(b)

No possession under 18 without direct supervision of a person 18 or older - 750.234f(1) - exception covered under (2) - hunting, etc.
