    Car Insurance

    Greetings!

This thread is all about car insurance and how they rape young adults like myself.

I know that car insurance is very important. I also know driving is a "privilege" and not a "right". But I also know that insurance companies rape young adults ages 18-24. I'm 19 years old and I'll be turning 20 this August. I currently drive a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII. I use my car not for pleasure and joy riding, but because I need it. I'm a very responsible driver. But insurance companies only care about statistics. They don't see me as a person but only as an age group.

Anyway, I had an accident over a year ago. It wasn't my fault. I was going through an intersection (I had the green light) and a guy was on the other side waiting to make a left turn. For some reason he decides to pull into the intersection at the same time I was driving across. Of course, this accident makes me "a risk". Of course, my insurance rates are going to be sky high.

I also received a moving violation last July. I was on my lunch/dinner break and I was running late. I didn't stop completely at a stop sign so I received a $110.00 ticket. But again, insurance companies don't care about the specifics...they only see it as a moving violation.

Basically, I'm sick and tired of being labeled as an irresponsible teenage (pretty soon, 20 year old). I want to drive legally but I can't afford $230 - $400 a month insurance (and that's WITHOUT collision or comprehensive).

My mom said "the system" doesn't want teenagers or young people to drive, so that's their way of getting "us" off the road. If that's true, then why not make a law that says you can't get your license until you're 24? If "the system" really doesn't want us to drive, stop teasing and just prohibit any young person from getting on the road.

My question is, what's the cheapest insurance for young adults? Some insurance companies don't like to take risks...but others will give you a chance and start you off at a decent rate.

    Thanks for reading!

    insurance

well iam only paying $150/ a month
i think it also depends on where you live, i live in ND in a town with about 70,000, my car is a 98 lincoln towncar and that is full coverage with a $500 deductable, no tickets whatsoever and even took a defensive driving course and that knocked off $15 bucks right there, so id say take a defenisve driving course that may help somewhat. and so some insurance shopping
btw iam only 20 yrs old and a male, i think my insurance is pretty cheap cept for a buddy of mine that is only paying $123 to the same company and he is driving a sports car, but he got a good grade deal or something like that

    I pay $108 a month at AAA.
Insurance is also based on credit scoring. The better your credit is, the less you're gonna pay.
My brother uses AAA too (he's the one that actually recommended the place to me) and he's 27 (I'm 23) and pays 80 something a month.
Our parents use Allstate (although they will soon be moving to AAA) and Allstate tried to screw us over. I dunno how much he was gonna pay but I was gonna have to pay like $180 something a month with them for the same coverage I'm getting at AAA.

But yea, as the person above me said, it depends on where you live really.

A Lincoln such as you describe has a V8 engine. They are not a slow car. " You " are being "penalized" because as a whole, the 16-24 yr old drivers accrue the most tickets for unsafe driving. Insurance companies look at the big picture when considering issuing a policy. They are in the business of making money. When your age group speeds, wrecks, runs stop signs etc, they do it more than anyone else, hence the simple equation means that you at 19 or 20 ARE A RISK.

You could call it "rape" , but you cost the companies more in payouts so they are simply going to charge you more. It is that easy.

Want cheaper insurance ? Get a 4 banger, not a Civic sport model eitherand at least
5 to 10 yrs old and consider a higher deductible.

I was in one such accident quite some years ago. My rates didn't change for me. It wasn't my fault. I didn't get a ticket. I only had PLPD at the time on a Salvage Title vehicle that was a stolen recovery. Not technically worth full coverage. I will tell you that I found AAA was the best rate I could get under the age of 24 and still is. I have excellent credit and they reward me for that. No tickets yadda yadda. Any way call every insurance carrier and agency you can find get lots of quotes first. Compare apples to apples. Keep notes then make your decision. Even Geico and AIG couldn't beat AAA in my instance. I check every year to make sure I get the best rates too. It is our money to spend. We have to be responsible enough to spend it wisely because no one else will be responsible for you.

And remember what I learned from that accident. Green don't mean go. It means procede with caution. I could be wrong but, that is what the cop said to me when I broke the stering wheel with my face.

I heard that too. But in that scenario, it was too late for me to do anything.

Hey, I was just ranting. I know they're in business to make money, but it's so unfair. I'm penalized for other idiots.

Oh, I got a Mark VIII not for speed (I don't race and all that) but for comfort and...I admit "coolness".

My brother has a fairly high grade car. I forget what it is. I think it's an accura but don't ask me what model..but he still only pays 80 something a month for insurance.

    I live in Philadelphia.

My neighborhood isn't bad (it could be better though).

I guess I should move to a little small town with only 100 people.

I am over 22, white, never had an accident, never received a ticket, never made a claim, male, college degree, '97 four door white vehicle, excellent credit, and a police officer. I still get charged big time with car insurance; it is pathetic.

When I used to live and work in Detroit, my insurance rates were incredible. Then I got smart and transferred my personal vehicle to a business that I ran 90 miles north in farm country. My insurance dropped over 60% on that vehicle just due to the address change on the registration.

Amen to that. I have been doing that since I moved out 6 years ago...give me one more year and I will be able to put the hot rod down as a "pleasure vehicle".

i work for an insurance company and with my discount i was paying $210 a month! But my car is a BMW M3 SMG II and according to the underwriter its a fast car, etc..etc... I lived in the city but just moved out and into a very quiet suburb. My insurance is now only $140 a month!!!! That is a HUGE decrease. Never been in an accident or had a ticket. But the zip code change made a HUGE difference. When I turned 25 I did not see a decrease either but others have. Look at females, they pay almost nothing! Oh well...

Yes sometimes they do check your credit score but most of the times its not a big deal. Its only a number.
