Training to use a radar gun

I have just moved out to a country home with 4 miles of unpaved roads crisscrosing it that the local farmboys still use for shortcuts, sometimes at outrageous speeds.

So I have been thinking if I were to purchase a radar gun and than video tape me pointing the radar gun at the trucks as they zoom by could I present that as evidence. It might be fun just to get a radar gun to see how it works and all. Might use it for some physics demonstrations in class, I'm a TA.

    Thanks in advance.

not to mention, you need an FCC license to broadcast that signal range.

Besides.....they run at over $1000.......if you have that kind of money to toss away...let me know. I could offer you a class on any LE topic you want for that kind of money....i'll even let you play with a radar gun for an hour to get it out of yor system.

I work for a sheriff's department and if we receive calls complaining about people speeding, we go out and setup a radar trailer. If that doesn't curb it, we start doing selective enforcement.

As for Joeyd6's offer...I'll do it for $800.

Call your local Law Enforcement Agency, they will handle the problem.

If they are reluctant at first then maybe you could calculate the speed of some vehicles using a stopwatch and aknown distance between two points. Then write a letter to the sheriff detailing the time/place and speeds. That's as much as you can do. Depending on your local department's resources and the other crime/speed problems in your area they may simply not hvae the manpower to run speed in your area. In this case they probably *are* out catching burglars a robbers (like they get told to do whenever they pull someone over...) ;)

So if I was to make a little box of tricks that just transmitted a weak signal on the correct frequency to trigger a radar detector (or laser, so the FCC doesn't have my ***) and have it xmit randomly for a few days (so drivers with radar detectors get blips, but cannot id the source) then would that slow people down?

I've often wondered about getting a 904nm xmiter (same freq and the laser diode in many laser guns) and put it in the rear window of my car. When I get tailgated by someone with a laser detector then I just flip on the diode and watch them slamtheir brakes on... :D

    Radar

Ramsey electronics used to make a device that would transmit in the radar band, and its idea was to mess with peoples radar detectors, it worked very well, but when the fcc heard about people playing brake light tag on the interstate they got a little worried, and told ramsey to stop making them or else
I however want one, the people around here that have radar detectors seem to think they can speed as fast as they want, "cause they aint gonna get picked up" well radar detectors were never designed so u could speed and get away with it, but anyways, if your really familair with elevtronics and making boards like that, PM me and maybe we could working somthing out together to make a radar transmitter

    Thanks

If it transmits in the radar band, it is probably illegal without an FCC license.
