    Pepper Spray Training

Well the first week of the academy is over with and I have to admit I am loving it. Anyways we have pepper spray training coming up and I just had a question. Is there anyway to help with the effects after training is complete? Its just an issue because I wear contacts and will need to put them back in to drive. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You better take your glasses or have someone else prepared to drive you. You will not want to put the lenses ack in unless you have disposables. I was advised to wait a week before putting lenses back in.

How long should you wait for disposables?

Well with disposables you could wear em home, then toss em. I would think that you risk ruining any pair you put back in your eyes for at least several days.

With me it wasn't an issue of ruining them...you're eyes may be too irritated to put them in...you may feel fine a couple hours after being sprayed, but your eyes will probably not respond well to contact with ANY foreign objects, contacts included. If you don't have glasses, I would arrange a ride. It was a full 48 hours before my eyes could handle contacts.

This reminds me of a Funny story...

"Once upon a time (5 months ago) there was a yougn man that attended the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy. 2 weeks had passed, and up came the pepper spray test. This young man says to his DI, 'Sir, I have heard about this stuff... Never been exposed to it, but heard thet it hurts. Think I will be ok?' The Di explains the reason that the academy attendees are exposed to it(so in the field they dont freak out if the wind changes direction and they get some in tehir face . The young man agrees with him, and says 'Sir, I am ready'. the Di empties about 1 second of OC into his eyes,a dn the kid drops to the ground...20 minutes later, as he is getting up, He rund over to a hose, and is talking to another academy pup. the young man says 'Holy Sh*t This stuff is crazy, but it does not hurt as much, Im gonna put some water on it, to get it out', He then picks up the hose, and sprays his eyes, 2 seconds later, he drops the hose, stumbles away, and screams at the top of his loungs...'ITS RE-ACTIVATING!!!!!!!! DON'T USE THE WATER!!!!' He later describes it as the gates of Hell opening upon his pupils."

The funniest thing I have ever seen...

Moral of story... OC hurts like hell.

I think I may deserve a rep point for all this typing... :D

Anyways, good luck with the OC, I have been exposed to it, but never direct contact. Well get direct level 3 exposure in a few weeks.

Oh, and see if your instructors will let you bring Johnson's baby shampoo, as that stuff is gentle enough that it can be applied straight to the eye. Pour that stuff straight onto the eye, and blink LOTS to work it in there to flush the residue out...it cut our class' decon time in half, easily. After that, keep blinking and take a brisk walk or run, keeping the eyes open. Fresh air helps in the long run, because it makes you tear more. You clamp your eyes shut, and the stuff just stays in. The key is to get the eyes open and keep them that way as soon as you are able.

Actually, the hose water is okay...it is the bucket that is bad. Capsicum is an oil...you dunk your head, and all that OC sits up top. You dunk again, and you put your head straight into the OC that is sitting right on the surface. But I will give you a rep point any how. Also, the hose could have washed some residue from his face or hair down into his eyes.

We took the full Z pattern at the academy...brutal, eyes, nose, mouth. Good luck, it is an experience.

Johnson's baby shampoo. And when you shower at night, be careful not to let the run-off drip down on your dong.

Yes, and when you shower that evening guard your nads. Oc will wash out of your facial hair and pours and run straight down your body to the neather regions.

Oh my god, that was the most painful thing I have ever done to myself. For about 2 seconds after I got sprayed I was thinking, "this isn't so bad". Three days later the dead skin on my eyelids peeled off.
Fire is a good description, but I think 10,000 bees stinging your face at once more accurately describes my experience.

Ouch, i am so glad i have not got that. But ill have to soon enough. And with getting shot with a taser, to get certified to use it on the streets...c-r-y. Seriously i do not wanna feel that stuff. But to use it to save my life, i guess its worth getting hit/sprayed.
