Best personality to be a cop?

I was wondering, what kind of personality do you think makes for a good officer. I believe that I am an honest, hardworking person with good morals and enjoy helping others. However, I have what you would call a very laid back personality. I am not the kind of person who enjoys creating turmoil/controversy, but am not afraid to face it either. People have told me that I am "too nice" to be a cop, but I wonder if that is true. I am definitely not a hard ***/in your face kind of guy. Would rather avoid a fight if I can. Are most officers on the force one way or the other? Just wondering, thanks.

I'm not a cop but I figure personality doesn't matter as long as you get the job done.

Im not a cop either (Just explorer)

    But personality does matter.

If you ask an officer, they will probably tell you that you need multiple personalities. You won't treat the victim the same as you treat the suspect, know what I mean?

There are many diffrent kinds of cops. If you are nice you will gain the respect of people. However, if you are to nice people may try to walk all over you. You should start out being very firm yet nice (not agressive) this way people know you mean buisness. Often times people like to challenge agressive cops.

Well first off their personality WILL be different from officer to officer because there human just like us, but on the professional side of officer's, I would say they have to have humor and be able to talk about anything, with anyone.

I am pretty laid back myself, and I have learned that being a hard-*** generally doesn't get you far in day-to-day work. That is not to say some people don't need to be put in their places, but generally, if you are calm and respectful, people respond better to direction.

I think you need to be flexible more than having any one type of personality. If you are able to remain calm when people are being a pain in your backside, but still able to put "foot to ***" when the situation calls for it, I think you will be fine.

Our department has lots of different personalities, all who get the job done just as well as the next guy. Some of our officers are really kind and uplifted, I am curious on what made them want to be a cop instead of say a happy circus clown :D . Then other Officers are a little harsher who seem a little more hardcore in their work, if you know what I mean.

    Rest in peace.
