Question Traffic Stop...what would you do?

I tried searching the board for an answer, but was unsuccessful. Say you were running radar on a two-lane highway. You have a vehicle going past you going 50 in a 30. You hit your lights and follow the vehicle for several miles. The vehicle has yet to stop. Finally..the vehicle stops after several miles and use of the siren.

You approach the vehicle and find that the driver is deaf. How do you proceed? The driver attemps to "sign" or "mumble" something with no success. Also, have drivers attempted to pull the "Don't speak English" stuff on you? How was that handled? Any and or all input would be appreciated.

They're probably getting a ticket for 20 over.... The person is deaf, so the use of my siren didn't cause him/her to stop.... One should be checking their mirrors a little more often than once every few miles.

If their Deaf, then I'd would break out the Ol' Notepad and Write it down to them and basically Explain everything I would in a regular Traffic stop except for it being on Paper instead of being said Verbally.

Supposedely, deaf drivers are more observant while they are driving. For some odd reason, a situation as explained above occured in a nearby town.

Little research can go a long way. LOL! Here is what I discovered...

    * HB 1330 allows an applicant to voluntarily list on their driver license or identification card any health condition that might impede communication with peace officers. The applicant must supply DPS with a written statement from a licensed physician. (NOTE: This law takes effect Jan. 1, 2004.)

Situation as described happened in our jurisdiction. Deaf male exited vehicle and immediately began a hands-on confrontation with the officer. Said officer took him into custody without any major injuries.

Not saying that anyone is, but don't ever be fooled by someone because of a disability. They can still KILL you! Be aware of your surroundings.

I usually use this line for the dont speak english people.

" Hey you are standing in dog **** " . When they move i have blown their attempt to not speak english. Also u dont have to know english to go to jail, u only need to know it to get out.

Most Americans know that if someone can't speak english, if you talk real loud and slow, then they understand:
"Can I see your drivers license?"
    <blank stare>
    "CAN....I......SEE......YOUR.......DRIVERS........ LICENSE......?"

To prove it works we can do the same in Borschlidisian:

"Fribmulich verk horgeun schmelhic skofgter mekihoen!"

    "FRIBMULICH.............VERK...........HORGEUN.... ........SCHMELHIC...........SKOFGTER.........MEKIH OEN............!"

See, even those who don't speak Borschlidisian understand what the Borschlid National Police Officer wants. You better know because he has a Shutzureheadofz rifle pointed at your left eyeball.
Trust me, it's not the jeans that make your butt look fat!

When I'm dealing with someone I believe speaks fluent english but refuses to do so, I pull out my pocket translator. It translates any language worldwide into english. In fact, I don't even have to use it, I just have to pull it out and show it to the person. It's made of heavy gauge steel in a very shiny finish. And I'm rather partial to the Peerless brand.

I've stopped a deaf individual before, and the situation was pretty close to your hypothetical....

Pulled out my notepad, and communicated just fine. He got a summons for speeding...
What is your major malfunction, numbnuts? Didn't Mommy and Daddy show you enough attention when you were a child?
